Re: My solution to stripped sway bar bolts. Yes it's overki

Stick is nice for welding when the metal isn't clean. I tried wire to upgrade the factory welds on the frame and that didn't work out too well. The owner of the race car is a millwright and he's great at stick welding so he helped me out cause I never used a stick.

The nut plate looks like a great solution, Steve. I suppose they could also be plug welded on. Rivets would be fine though.

I worked on aircraft for a decade or two and you'll find every type of nutplate and there lots of them on an aircraft, commercial and military. This is the last type of ac I worked on and I was working on the first ones in Mojave Desert getting cetified

That looks like one of those small regional jets. We have some 50 passenger Canadair CRJ jets that fly out of here. I think there are also some even smaller that fly down to Miami.

BTW, What are the nut plates made out of...stainless, aluminum, steel?

Re: My solution to stripped sway bar bolts. Yes it's overki

that was the CL 601(Canadair) and the nutplates are made out of steel. Every threaded aluminum (actually it's dural or aircraft aluminum) part is helicoiled on an aircraft.

or you can use a nut plate

and install it with a countersunk rivet so it will be flush with the frame

The nut plate is a good idea, though I am not sure you would be able to fit one on the drivers side. It is tight in there.
