Hello im new here but iv been searching forums for almost a month now for my 307 and im stuck very bad. It dont happen alot but sometimes when i put my wagon in park it idles higher like im cruising yet. When i turn it off sometimes it diesels for a good 3-4 seconds then smells very bad like burnt something. What i have tryed: new plugs wires, cap, rotor, cleaning with carb cleaner, fuel cleaner, better fuel, checking hoses. Im at a loss here and need some help i was looking at forums that said the choke, hoses, maybe timing. Its the only thing wrong with my old girl besides a small oil leak from who knows were.

welcome to the site, post in the new users thread and give us a few pictures of your car along with a little intro....:)

As for the problem it sounds like the choke and high idle is sticking. If that is the original carb it could be time for it to be rebuild. If you pick up the book by Cliff Ruggles on quadrajets that will help you alot

i tryed to buy a new carb for it but there is way too many options for me to even understand where to start. Is there any way to clean the choke and high idle like carb cleaner? Or maybe 3m adhesive remover?

Check the PCV valve and hose. Make sure throttle cable or linkage is not hanging up.
Using pliers try squeezing some of the hoses around the carb and intake. Also check the brake booster - it runs off manifold vacuum.

You would be much better off having your carb rebuilt by a quadrajet specialist rather than replacing it. Contact quadrajet power by starting a conversation. He is a member of this forum and rebuilds quadrajets for a living.

If you are going to have it rebuilt I would try to find someone local or better yet learn to rebuild it so you know it's done right.

Thanks for the mention Texas82.
It does sound like your fast idle is sticking.
Make sure your choke is not engaged at all when you have the fast idle situation. If your choke is engaged at all, it will engage the fast idle cam.
As mentioned, spray carb cleaner on passenger side choke elements to clean it up, that may solve your issues.

For a fresh rebuilt Quadrajet, let me know what the code number is on yours and I may have one on hand I could build for you. You could send yours back and receive some credit, and you wouldn't have down time. Stay away from parts store or big volume rebuildshop carbs, they are a mess.

I can email you a basic adjustment sheet with pictures also if it would help, just send me your email.

I'm having similar issues. Carb was rebuilt now mechanic can't keep it running or when it will stay running it idled high as hell only to die out when you hit gas. Wasn't doing any of this before hand just ran rich. Please help. Down for all options.

Vacuum leaks cause fast idle and dieseling. More air leads to more fuel to compensate leads to higher idle. More air leads to lean out leads to dieseling.
