New Jeep Question

Valve cover gaskets are really common on the 4.0s. I think the later ones came with rubber as opposed to cork, and the cork were definitely better in my opinion. Almost every rubber one I've ever seen that leaked was over-tightened which is what caused the leak. The rubber gaskets are really easy to over torque.

There is no choice of material for the gasket, or at least I didn't find any. . The Felpro gasket is rubber with a metal core and it comes with new grommets. Thanks for the tip and I'll make sure not to over tighten them

I did some reading on the felpro gasket kit I got and it says "it also prevents over-tightening of the mounting bolts.". It must have a sleeve in the grommet I guess.

Yes, it has grommets so you don't over tighten it and squoosh the gasket out of place. I usually glue a valve cover gasket to the cover with Ultra Black, then glue it to the head. That way it never leaks again. But this is my first Jeep gasket and I wonder why it leaks so badly in the first place?

I have read the problem is the gasket gets sucked in with vacuum and pushed out with pressure..

Oh Okay now I can follow along a couple years ago we always noticed even with loctite that the bolts would come loose. That could be one reason these things hate valve cover gasket

The ones with the metal core should be significantly better, especially if the holes are sleeved. All the ones I've seen were just rubber, and the gaskets were really easy to squish. I don't know who made the all rubber ones, I would guess they were OEM or maybe Victor Reinz? Ive never had issues with Fel Pro and I doubt you will either.
