New Jeep Question

I brought the Jeep in to have the rear main changed. I don't have the time. By the book it's a 4.7 hour job and the mechanic I use is only $50 an hour. He called me during the job to tell me it was the pan gasket at the rear. It's a bad design in that area and the last guy wasn't careful enough to make sure the gasket was in place. I picked the Jeep up a little while ago and all he wanted was $200 including the pan gasket and fixing an exhaust leak. I didn't let him get away with that. I paid him $250 and I still think I got off cheap. If he was dishonest he could have said he changed the rear main and had to replace the pan gasket even though we both thought it would be ok to used since the new pan was put on recently and charge me according to the book.
