New Jeep Question

I'll blast clean the holes with carb cleaner and then try loctite too. I only want to do this ONCE! I had a '75 Matadore wagon with the 258 motor, identical to the 4.0. Aside from the carb it was absolutely bullet proof. The Carter carb hopelessly sucked and I replaced the entire intake with a water heated one from some ancient junkyard Rambler that bolted right up. It came with a Holley 1920 carb about the size of a baseball. Once rebuilt it worted flawlessly. I also worked on a Nash, year unknown, with the same motor. Historic.

These are great little engines. Straight 6s are really smooth and relatively efficient too. It's a shame Chrysler didn't update it for the new jeeps instead of coming out with their Pentastar line of engines :puke:. The Pentastars really aren't terrible from a reliability standpoint (especially considering some of the other complete POS products of the failed DaimlerChrysler Group) but from a serviceability point of view, you can tell Chrysler cut a few corners on them. Either way I say bring back the AMC 4.0!

P.S. I've never been a fan of Carter carbs either.

The 94 Jeep with a 4.0 I drove the last couple of winters had close to 450,000 kilometers and it passed an e-test with 1 1/2 year old oil and I drove it 15 minutes after it sat all summer to bring it in to get tested. I'm happy this Jeep has the 4.0 in it rather than the 4.7

I cleaned the valve cover off the other day and there was a build up of oil but that could be from years of neglect. I was looking at changing the valve cover gasket but there was a stream of oil coming from the filler plug and running down to the back of the engine along the side of the valve cover. I put different filler plug in yesterday and today there was just two little spots of oil on the ground now that could be the residue of the leak. I don't have to change the valve cover gaskets, gotta luv that..🙂

Sounds good! On my end her PS booster check valve broke at work and the brakes were hard to apply. Luckily it's the same GM type I have a few of and it was a quick fix. Is there a Jeep sensor that says it's cold out- time for something to break?

I thought they all came with the heated rear bumper option...

(Keeps your hands warm while you're pushing!!!)

I got this set tonite replace my broken and worn 6 way heated seats. They are 10 way power and heated and not a rip in them. Picked it up for $100. Now the steerer of the Jeep will be comfortable while we push...😀

he had the set listed for $250 a few months back and then dropped it to $150. I asked him for his best price and he came with a $100 if I picked picked up the same day. He was a little over an hour drive from me. It's terrible trying to sell stuff these days. End up with alot of dreamers asking questions who have no money. On my valve cover gasket issue a prolonged highway drive pumped out some oil so I will be changing it after all. I spoke too soon....

Mark, after changing the valve cover gasket I was still blowing smoke going down the highway. In city traffic no oil leaks so it turns out the grommets were hard and let the oil leak out under the pressure of prolonged highway driving The back one was real bad but it's hard to see it. None of the bolts for the valve cover were loose. The rear is similar to a pcv which can get clogged and the front is just an elbow. The plastic elbow is so brittle they break when trying to remove them and the new rear pcv is taller than the old one so it must be a new design. I couldn't find these parts at Napa even with the Mopar part numbers so it's a dealer items here. I've attached the bill from the dealer so you don't have to track down the part numbers if you want to change them....and DO NOT tell me how much cheaper you got the parts for..
