NEW S-10, SONOMA PROJECT

Progress has been slow this summer with the racing season and I really thought there wasn't any interest but a couple have piped up. Have decided on 2 inch drop spindles on the front and a Caltracs complete setup in the rear which should lower it about 3 inches. Got a great deal on 4.30 gear and won a gift certificate to Drive Train Specialties which should take care of the drive shaft.

What are the plans on the drivetrain? Obviously SBC/automatic but would you care to share some details.

I like this project. My first car was an 84 S10 Blazer (2 door) with a carbed 2.8 V-6 and a 5-speed. I was gathering parts to put a 305 in it when I got rear-ended hard and it got totalled.

Way back I bought a new 84 S10 Blazer 2wd, 2.8, 5 sp and used it as a company car. In '91 I did a 305 swap, with all emissions, dual cat and exhaust, hooked to a 700r4. Lucky for me I ordered it with a posi and it never got totalled.
I ordered the engine mounts from Advance Adaptors but the holes still needed relocating.

The engine is going to be the one out of the dragster, sold the dragster as a roller. It's a 350 .030 over hard blocked to the water pump holes. Has wiseco pistons 12/1 w/ 6in rods and a steel crank, using RHS heads w/ 220 runners. A Crane roller cam, can't remember the specs right now topped of with a Super Vic intake. It has 525 wheel Hp. Bought a BTE powerglide (showed a pic earlier) I have built our transmissions but buy the time you buy all the good parts it's about the same as Abruzzi or BTE when they have their sales. The converter is a 5500 Abruzzi and of course the 4.30 rear.

Had planned on putting a rack and pinon steering but it looks to be a real pain in the butt (already bought it) pretty sure we are just going with a manual box. The last 2 months have been spent assembling and welding in the Caltracs system, a Trick Chassis sway control, a rear driveshaft loop and front and rear motor plates. Lots of little things have been hammered out such as the throttle control, master cylinder and brake line routing, battery box, shut down switch, and shifter location with the various boxes. Also installed a rear roll pan instead of the bumper.

I'm unfamiliar with the Caltracs suspension. I see that it is leaf spring. Would you care to describe it a little? Also, what is your goal for this truck on the track?

There is a couple of systems all with the same idea, we are going with a split mono spring and instead of using U bolts we've welded a bracket to the housing to lower and be a bolt in to the lower plate. You can get an idea from the pic. it stops any spring wrap up and people have been having great success on leaf spring cars. Looking to run 6.30s in the 1/8th - 10.0 in the 1/4 not sure how much it's going to weight, 6.30 to 6.50 in the 1/8 I'll be happy.
