Many of my existing friends are quite into car themselves but they don't particularly like to help me in any physical way. They will happily answer all my question though. I've gone to the car show(s) here in my hometown every year. there is even a small car group mostly teenagers of my age or younger but most them give me the "Are you stupid look" when I ask them about something. Although at car shows 90% of the people there are actually helpful.
I think you'll find many of the older guys more than willing to help younger guys like yourself. We have to pass the torch on to the younger generation. That's the only way our hobby/ obsession will flourish.

Alright, yeah I was thinking about stuff like that. I did get a Manual from ebay and have been reading it often to familiarize myself. After I return from my roadtrip, I need to find a new job.Currently I'm working on Sound System & Brakes (although my 2 ton hydraulic jack seems not to lift my wagon 🙁) If its not a bother, how would the it detect engine overheating/oil pressure? I can understand the Battery no charging.
The "idiot lights" will have a switch screwed into what it's detecting. For water temp, usually in a cylinder head, what's known as a "normally open" switch, possibly filled with mercury or such. The mercury will expand at a certain rate, when the water in the head gets to a pre determined temperature, two contacts will touch sending a ground signal to the light on the dash. The oil temp will be a "normally closed" switch meaning the contacts are touching sending a ground signal to the dash light until the engine is started and oil pressure forces them apart, turning the lamp off.

First newbie rule: Mark everything and/or take pictures before you take it apart. Smoked my eyebrows once while swapping plug wires and trying to make it start afterwards.
Second newbie rule: Resist the temptation cut things off unless you are absolutely sure you won't need them again. A/C hoses, computer harnesses, etc.

Too bad you live 1500 miles away. We be each others' best friend if you moved to my town.
