Paint for car?

Be careful about buying too soon - some of that stuff has a shelf life, some will need a very aggressive stirring/shaking if it's been sitting around. I started buying my ppg stuff and plan on painting my car this year.
I'm starting with DP50 epoxy over bare metal, then DPS3055 primer
After block sanding too perfection, it'll get a coat of sealer followed up with DBC 2000 base coat and finally DC2021 clear
When that's all done, wetsanding and buffing out will commence.

Thanks for those item numbers they help with my research!

I'm also currently tackling my first paint job. My color is platinum silver metallic. Also not a very beginner friendly color! Make darn sure the car is straight. Spend hours and hours on block sanding. Use a guide coat! Also make sure you use at least a 12 inch block. Slick sand is a life saver. Look it up. I could have probably saved myself 40-50 hours of blocking if I had started with that! Also if you have someone there that sells Nason I would also look into it. So far it lays down awesome for a first time painter like myself!!! So if I can shoot it, anyone can! Just a few things I have learned in my first adventure with painting.

Oh, I also have a build thread on here if you would like to check out some of what I have done. There are a ton of pictures!

Thanks for the info on that 12" block and slick sand! I've read about Nason and it looks like good stuff!

I've been seeing your build thread and it looks great... What kind of gun are you using?

Im using a Devilbiss Finishline 4 gun for primer, and a Sata RP Digital 2 for base/clear. But if your on a budget, check out the Sharp Finex FX3000. I have heard nothing but rave reviews about them from a few painter buddies of mine. They are 100% rebuild able as well. Im honestly not a big fan of my Devilbiss, but LOVE the Sata. My next gun will be the Sharp Finex FX3000, or a couple of them 😉

Also, if your going to shoot slick sand, get a 2.0 tip or larger for your gun. And dont be afraid to reduce it 10% or so. It sprays like bondo. lol

Thanks for the info and I'm gonna start buying materials soon! Where do you buy your stands that you place your panels/trunk lid/bumpers on while you paint?

Believe it or not I got them at harbor freight. They are the 200lb rated stands. Plenty strong so far. Otherwise Eastwood carries them as well.
