posi not working

From what I have read the Borg Warner cone type was built up to 1974 and used in Chrysler products. Auburn manufactured the cone style starting in 1980. The only recent Borg Warner rear end I am aware of was a 9 bolt

So what style posi came in 98-05 s10 blazers?

My son's '03 ZR2 has a crappy Gov-lock. You wouldn't know it has a posi, then all of a sudden it acts like one when you have given up on it.

I'm pretty sure the posi in my 14 bolt in my 2000 Yukon XL 2500 is the same type. I can drift it in the rain, but when I jack it up and spin the tires, it acts like an open diff. (and I have the widow sticker that says I paid $250 something for a positraction rear).

My TTA has a Australian B&W 9 bolt with a "cone style" differential. The cone style diff was Borg Warner's great idea. Borg Warner had a lot of great ideas that were later made by and improved upon by other companies, like Tremec, etc

Auburn Gear was spun off from Borg Warner in 1982.

Gov-Locks have a place, unfortunately it isn't in a performance anything - I'd say your son's ZR2 is a place they don't belong. But for the average consumer that bought an S10 with a 100 hp four banger that is daily driven they are great, especially in the snow. But put 400HP in front of it and some stickies at the end of the axles and - boom 🙂

If the OP has an 8.5" axle, be aware that any 8.5 differential should drop right in, and they use the 28-spline axle shafts. I used an Auburn unit specified for 90's Chevy truck 8.5 I found NIB on Craigslist, in order to upgrade to the 30 spline axles. However, my original plan was to use a clutch-type differential from a 79 Chevy with the 10-bolt. I still have it in the truck axle and it still locks the two wheels together. I am willing pull it and ship it to you if you don't have $500 budgeted for the Eaton or Auburn aftermarket limited slip option.

I agree, 64nailhead. I think Gov locks are only for snow and mud, because the spin/then lock characteristic are sure to eventually explode them on dry pavement.

GovLok's will explode on pavement. Ask me how I know...
