OLDS Possible olds 425 engine purchase

I'm considering the purchase of a 66 olds 425 engine. This engine has the B heads and steel crank. That are asking 200 bucks for what is in the pics.

I've read these are good engines but I have never owned one. Let me know your thought on if this would be a good engine.

My intention would be for street driving, no strip or racing.

Finally! Someone using good common sense. Heck yes buy it or tell me where it is and if close enough I'll take it.

All Olds heads need help. Even the big valve version of BBO heads only flow low 200's on the intake side. Use 2.07" intake minimum and 1.625" or 1.68" exhaust valves. A bowl hog cutter and bowl blend should be considered the minimum for a hope to get 500 HP. Mark Remmel also brought a really nice 10cc Mahle forged piston with 1mm ring packs to the market for the 350 and 425.

Well, I have not heard one objection/hesitation to this buy. I'm all in. It's been too long since I've built an engine.

I'll talk to my machine shop guy about those intake and exhaust specs. I'm sure he can help me make that happen.

I'll check out the Mark Remmel forged piston. Thanks for the info. I'll take all the advise I can get!

Make sure you spend the $15 and the hour it takes to put some 'homebrew' oil restrictors in it. With that short stroke forged crank, the good stock forged 7" rods with bolts and beam polish, forged pistons, and port work, it will rev hard and haul a$$.

Ima disagree on the restrictors. Either put it in and run it as is, or offset grind the crank to 4.25 and stick it in a 455 block with some bore. CP Bullet "496" pistons on 7.2 rods in my 468 are a magical combination. The 425 crank is steel; that's your biggest asset.

My goal is to run the 425 and not find a 455 block. So with that i should just run it as is without the restrictors right?

Yep. Send it. Put good oil in it, and yank gears at 6500! 425s are the shizz-nizzit!

The 425 and the 330 flexplate have the same bolt pattern. One from a 350 or 455 will not work and redrilling either one isn't recommended. I'd say grab it, I have sold 425 cranks for $150.
