Don't those lower panels have a slight bend in them half way through? Or is it different with some models?

they are exact to the body lines on the cutlass

Worked on getting the final body mount locations welded in and structurally sound again. Also worked on a couple patches in the floor board. Then took some time to clean the front half of the floor of all undercoating and paint. It is quite nice to no longer see any rust at all!!

got most of the aweful God forsaken crap as referred to rubber tar undercoating. I know it is needed, but damn what a mess to remove. getting closer and closer to getting the undercarriage all ready for paint. Need the weather to cooperate for a little bit of time so I can sandblast the above frame rails area around the rocker panel. The rust looks worse than it really is.

What are you using to remove that undercoating?

Brother, I have used everything. Primarially diesel fuel. Let it sit for awhile, it peels off with a sharp putty knife. THen spray bottle with laquer thinner to wash the sh*t off, then paint stripper to remove all the ecoat to bare metal. What the paint stripper wont remove is removed with 80 grit D/A then the smaller areas are polished with a 4.5" paint stripping grinding wheel, then the 2" roloc on a right angle air grinder. THen, wash some more with laquer thinner. Absolute  b*tch and a mess, but man what you find under there under that ecoat and undercoating. Glad I am removing it and remove all light rust that cannot be seen without complete paint removal. THis weekend, 60 degrees so she will go out side for a frame rail area sand blasting. Then i'll be rust free 100%

Looking good Toby! I know we use alot of aircraft grade stripper to strip all that old scum off. Then we usually wire wheel and or DA the entire under carraige. Its a b*tch but its nice to know all the rust and old paint is gone.

Thanks Bobby, Ask larry if you get a chance if he puts seam sealer on the undercarriage of the body. I am trying to determine if I should seal up all the seams underneath, or would it cause problems if I did so by trapping moisture if I didnt get everything air tight.

I have been spending some time with all 500 lbs of screws nuts and bolts getting them freed of all rust using a vibrator tumbler and made a peg board type device to sand blast the tops of the heads so I can use a black phosphating procedure to turn the bolts back to brand new status without having the expense of buying all new fasteners. I still plan on buying all new jamb nuts, but all the bolts are in good shape to recondition them

here is my sand blast device project, pretty easy and works well, next step to get them black phosphated. That will come up tomorrow....that process explained using a caswell cold black phosphating process.
