455 with twin china turbos? That would be neat! If you are wanting to go on on trips down the highway, I would put the money in a good over drive transmission. If you want to keep the column shifter. That would be just a matter of changing a few parts. You are getting me excited about this project and it has nothing to do with me. Very cool build!

You've got your options, ultimately it's up to you. I, would put in a th350 with a shift kit, 2500 converter, in place of the metric that's probably in there (or whatever weak sauce 3 speed that is), and buy a 200r4 core, have your friend build it, and put that in at a later date.

The beauty of the big BOP engines is unnatural amounts of low end torque, so you can still use a 3 speed auto and keep the original freeway flyer gears for longer trips but it wont feel like turd around town. Way back in high school I had a 74 LeSabre with a 455 4bbl and if you left a stop sign at 1/4 throttle or more it would rip the crap outta the tires, with 2.73 gears. In a gbody that weighs half as much itll be like driving on ice.

No offense to you, Mike...or any other LS engine fans. I like to see something different from time to time.
Not knocking LS engines by any means. I think they're great engines and well engineered.
Nothing wrong with keeping it old school.

Lies! All lies!

You almost hurt my one feeling... almost. 😉
