He said he needs one; hook a brutha up! Save the world from another LS swap.
I mean, I have 2, one of which I'm currently using, the other's only useable parts are the block and the bare head castings. I don't know where he is, but post a want ad. People will pay you to take em away. Any guy that does racing or derby will end up with a big 4 door buick with either a 350 or 455 and swap it out for a chevy 350. 70-80 are the ones to go to, ignore 68-69. Oil through the rocker shafts. 70 would have the highest factory compression at 9.5:1 for the standard 4 barrel, 10.25:1 for the "Hi-Compression" 4 barrel motor (GS350 cars only), 75-80 have beefier rods. 70-73 have different shaped water jackets than 74ish-80 so can't swap heads around. All 350 heads from 68-80, 2 or 4 barrel were open chamber 55-58cc (production varience) with 1.88 intake valves. 1.5 exhaust valves were used through 74, 75 went to 1.55. Runners pretty much the same, stop flowing after .400 lift. All the engines used pretty much the same camshaft, believe it or not. I could go on, but Ive done that enough times. Anyone wants more info, message me lol.

,
anywho, a properly built Buick 350 with a crower level 3 cam, good port job on the heads, 10:1 (or 9.5:1 for straight pump gas, build engine to have 9.5:1 with .042 head gaskets, TA sells .020 gaskets to get it to 10:1), and proper bearing clearances throughout (really no more than .002, .0025 max, dont use high volume pump, puts too much stress on distributor gear), and ta cam bearings, it will be a reliable torquey as hell SB and be lighter than an all iron SBC. The amount varies, but general consensus is ~100lbs lighter. You can use basically all the wiring, distirbutor (maybe), starter, front accessories and bracketry, on the Buick 350.

Go with 455 and 200 4r. It is a great setup in these cars. Basically bolts right in. It's also all Buick.

love the project. if you want different, i'd go with a buick 455 stage 1 hooked to a 6speed manual, and row that b*tch.
otherwise, go with what fits your style and budget, ls or not.

Flemming, pagrunt, Ken, Joe, Rus, MrSony... you win!! ( I think I'm a winner, also. )

IT'S OFFICIAL... Project Laid Back stays ALL BUICK, with a BBB 455ci power plant. I was literally ready to purchase (2) different LS setups, but when I would ask for the address to go pick them up.. they were sold. Things happen for a reason.. IDK, but during my searches online, I found this FB Marketplace listing for a Buick 455 for $400. I exchanged a few messages with the owner, went to check it out, negotiated the price of $300 ( since that's all I can get from the ATM each day, Lol ) and it's got a new owner now - me! I have my core/builder motor now, so next on the list of items to find, is a transmission. A 3 speed / 4 speed automatic has been discussed, as well as a 6 speed manual. I'm almost certain I will go with a 3 speed auto, that way I can keep the shifter on the column, for that total sleeper look, although I already have a center console, and a very nice B&M console shifter. Again, no triggers have been pulled, so...

Week#2 Updates - here's what I got.
1 - Jeg's "Deal of a lifetime" exhaust kit w/ mufflers # https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30525/10002/-1 - Jeg's
2 - 1975 BBB 455 long block / oil pan, starter, flexplate, exhaust manifolds, motor mounts, valve covers, all accessory bolts - Facebook
3 - Headliner trim ( remember the headliner was missing, along with the trim - I'm currently working w/ Dixie Restoration Depot for a fix ) - my stash
4 - New 1/0 battery cable ( make my own new ones ) - my stash
5 - Coil of new 12G primary wire - my digital compass/temp rear view mirror, any gauges, etc, - my stash
6 - Gutted the interior yesterday - seat belts, kick panels, entry plates, a-pillar trim, b-pillar trim ( seats, and carpet removed previously )
7 - I was finally able to spend 3 hours on the car today, as it has rained every weekend, and most weekdays, since getting the car. I vacuumed under the hood, floors, trunk. Verified all lights are working - running lights, turns, stop, HIGH beams, etc. Even the license plate lights work, horn - nice!
8 - I removed the cowl panel, so I can start removing all the silicone the previous owner applied in hopes of stopping the leaking windshield - not!! It's a mess. I need to get this done asap, so I can seal up this car.
9 - I adjusted the hood catch, as to eliminate slamming the hood, to close it. Doesn't look like the hood is dented, but I'll find out when sanding/blocking starts, Lol. No telling how long it had been that way. It took all of 2 minutes.

It was a good Saturday for me, as all this happened today. I won't be able to spend all day on it today, because I got to work tonight. Nappy time starts about 4:30pm, but I do plan to get the motor out of the back of my truck, and get it on the engine stand. I'm going to clean it with a wire brush/wheel, get it WD-40'd, and wrapped up for the time being. Until next time...

Damn TURNA, that was 30 seconds in.. and you were on it! Up early my friend, Lol. Thanks for your support.

A HUGE thanks to MrSony for schooling me on these older Buick motors, and QJet carbs. This guy knows his stuff! I'm serious.. See this project is already allowing me to get to know more of you guys, and it has already paid off. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!! 👍👍

Congratulations on the new mill James. That will be very cool. I wonder if it would be too difficult to put a 4L80E behind that torque monster? I think it is possible to column shift a 4L80E. I think you'll want overdrive in that car if you want to take it to places like Gulfport. I think a 4L80E would be the most cost effective way to get overdrive in the car.

You could also do a GearVendors behind a TH400 but they are expensive, and no telling how well it would fit. I don't think I've seen any threads on here where someone actually has a GearVendors in a G-Body so I don't know how it would fit.
