Hey, man, tools are tools! That's what separates us from the primates no matter how much of one I look like in the shop. 🐒Bruce, your penchant for using wood working tools to do automotive work is gonna give me an aneurism, I swear to god!

I agree but do like the Qjet and nearly non existent spreadbore intake and fooling people with the valve cover adapters. The Olds V8 only came in the big cars, Tornado, H/O, 442 and 88 CSC which I bought. Donovan also picked up a 442 2004R and 8.5" rear from a wrecker for peanuts. Olds V8's are getting hard to find and are now $500 and up here. Here are the covers going on my proper 350 in my 88. This pic is just are polishing and POR clear coat, not as nice now.Your valve covers don't have enough bolt holes in them. Wrong make of engine most likely. You should always have 10 or 20 bolt holes in your valve cover set in a Cutlass and the oil fill in the front. I realize that GM slighted the Canadian crowd by hoarding most of the Olds V8s for U.S.-bound destinations. Or it was just a devious way of throwing away SBC's. 🙂 They denied zillions (a slight exaggeration) of Canadians the ability to enjoy the smoothness of an Olds V8 in their G-body Cutlass unless they bought a Hurst/Olds or 442.
I kid, I kid. I remember the 84 Oldsmobiles were very popular along with the fact they had an Olds V8 shortage early in the production year in late 1983. I don't recall the reason they had the Olds V8 shortage though (Bueller? Anyone?) Regardless, they couldn't produce them fast enough. So much so that Oldsmobile put the 307 on constraint. The only way you could get them was in the big cars like 88 and 98. The Cutlass was mandated V6 only for the time being which, thankfully, the constraint was only in place for a short time. But they could build a lot of Cutlai in that amount of time. That's why there was a butt ton of V6 Cutlass running around for 84. The lone exception for getting an Olds V8 in a Cutlass body style during the constraint was the VIN 9 (Hurst/Olds) cars. I've got a production bulletin to the dealerships around here somewhere.
Ever think of doing a early intake on that sbc? With the oil fill in front like an old Edelbrock tm1 just for example. I just think it goes with the buildGot some stuff accomplished in the garage this week, and another package delivered from F*ck-UPS yesterday.
Second round of high build primer on the fender and door:

Should hopefully be a productive day in the shop today, and if all goes well, see how these look...

...finally on the engine.
A more in-depth comprehensive update to follow, it’s been a difficult week.
