You’re the second person to remark about them being blue and gold. Just to reiterate, there is absolutely NO gold on these. Just bare brushed aluminum. I suspect they might look to have a bit of a goldish tint to them because of the crappy lighting in my garage.

And yep, I got some sneaky valve cover adapters to use perimeter bolt pattern covers on the Vortec heads. Thanks for the compliments.
Thank you, Mr D,
They are certainly nice valve covers. I like the fact that they include factory type baffles. Thank you for the link. After you mentioned the finned area(s) brushed and not gold, I then considered the lighting playing tricks on their appearance. I figured the gold accent being an Oldsmobile engine color. They look great in any case.
So they're black when you receive them. They still look kinda cool right out of the box.

Intriguing idea Eric!
Very cool, I would’ve loved to see that in person. Creative and sneaky for sure. Not really realistic for what I intend with the car, at least not at this point, but thanks for sharing.
👍🏻
To further this, we reamed a 85 intake manifold to fit on a 87 center bolt valve cover motor. Worked fine, no complaint from the customer, ran perfect. Dodge did similar with the Magnum vs the old LA, angled vs straight. I should have got the double drilled heads when mine cracked badly, way more early intakes. Hopefully your Vortec heads hold out, my Magnum heads cracked into the combustion chambers, blasted the cooling system badly.

The cracking that people talk of was caused by lack of maintenance and repairs. The orange Dexcool coolant used back in the day had issues, and the intake gaskets often failed. This and not checking the coolant level caused the engine to run hot and crack the heads

The vortec head runners are about .300 taller,, some intake manifolds won't cover up the upper part of the runner. You have to test fit it and see.

Burned a little bit of the midnight oil on a school night tonight and did a thing.

2 coats of epoxy to start...

...then 2 coats of white and grey afterwards along the tops.

Also re-shot the grey surrounding the quarter glass moulding at the same time. I wasn’t entirely happy with how it disappeared behind the backside of the moulding when I did it originally, now it parallels the moulding like factory, and matches the other side.
Yay doing sh*t twice!

Bye bye ugly *ss brown door and bare metal jamb, hello clean white and metallic grey!

Man I’m behind on updating this thread properly. Maybe on the weekend after I’m done shooting more small parts.
