BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Looks great, D.
I like the blue and gold touch on the finned valve covers.
I assume you're using adapters for the center bolt heads to the early gen. perimeter bolt valve covers. Very tastefully done. Need I say more?

Could you post a link to the source of the valve covers? I'm considering a set of them. I wanted the early Chevy LT-1 style covers, but they're hard to find, or they want your first born for them...

Motor looks really good. It doesn't scream sbc, exhaust manifolds are the only giveaway.

They don't match the block and heads. Pull the engine and reshoot. 😛

Um, no.
😜

Actually, the color is an exact match, because I painted the new valve covers with the leftovers from the same can of Corporate blue from the block and heads. It’s the current layer of sanding dust and a couple heat cycles that’s making them look a bit different.

You’re the second person to remark about them being blue and gold. Just to reiterate, there is absolutely NO gold on these. Just bare brushed aluminum. I suspect they might look to have a bit of a goldish tint to them because of the crappy lighting in my garage.

And yep, I got some sneaky valve cover adapters to use perimeter bolt pattern covers on the Vortec heads. Thanks for the compliments.

I vote pull the engine and put an Olds 455 in it. JMO. haha

Seriously? Already got one with one. How many do ya want me to have?
😂
455/T56 six speed/narrowed 12 bolt combo in The Juggernaut. That’s the big boys toy, this one has to be tame enough that the better half can take it to shows with me in The Juggernaut and not kill herself in it!
😅

You know those valve covers are going to make you think about adding other parts to match them beside the breather.

I’ve considered that very real possibility, but I’m just gonna have to try and restrain myself. The only other future visual deviation from what you currently see, is a set of headers stealthily ceramic coated black to help it breathe.
I’ve already got them, they’ve just gotta be blasted and coated first because they are a used set I scored at a swap meet.

New style Vortec heads Eric. That’s not possible to the best of my knowledge because the Vortec’s use a different intake manifold and manifold bolt configuration. They go in vertical as opposed to angled like the older Gen I versions.
Yes but I've seen it done years ago on a bracket car at raceway Park the guy machined the bolt holes in the intake to be straight up and it had what I can only describe as wedge-shaped square washers to make the heads of the bolts seat flat. I'm no machinist or mechanic so I've no idea how correct or incorrect it is to do or if the wedges are available aftermarket but it's definitely been done.
Valve covers look assume by the way and the bodywork as always

Intriguing idea Eric!
Very cool, I would’ve loved to see that in person. Creative and sneaky for sure. Not really realistic for what I intend with the car, at least not at this point, but thanks for sharing.
