BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Looks great Donovan!

Door and car have been unmasked and the small parts starting to go back on. Today is all about transferring the internals from the old door to the new.
With any luck, I may be able to hang the new door by tomorrow night.
🤞🏻
Pretty stoked to finally get to this stage!

D.
Your giving me the ich D even started making plans

So what about the paint line inside the jam from white to gunmetal? Does that stay as is since you can't see it with the door closed? Looks great BTW!

Thanks!
Yep, it stays put, and as is. As odd as it sounds, the fuzzy paint “overspray” break is fully intentional. Because I want this car to look like it could’ve come stock with this paint scheme, and GM never cared what the insides of the panels looked like, this is me attempting to duplicate it.

Looks great Donovan!

Thanks Kevin!

Glad to hear that Eric. It’s been quite a while since you’ve been able to work on your G bodies.

Aaaand done.
New weatherstrip, glass and latch striker bolt will go in permanent after the door is hung and aligned, but the rest is fully swapped over and finished.

Already got Mike lined up to come over after work tomorrow, and we'll get it hung. Man I love it once it gets to this stage!

Donovan, you are about the only thing keeping me motivated on getting the silver car back on the road.
Can't wait to see it with doors on and getting ready for final paint!

Maybe I'm out on an island over here, but I'm having a hard time believing that crap about the overspray. All that detail work and the nod to the General is overspray? Not buying it....the pinstripe separating the colors WILL continue through the door jambs!!!!

I am just mad his overspray will look better than my entire paint job.

Hey, whatever you gotta tell yourself to get to sleep at night Bruce!
😂
No joke, the way you see it is the way it’s staying. It doesn’t convey real well in the pictures, but it actually looks fine in person. I’ve said it before, but this one ain’t a show car. IMO, it’s a reasonable quality partial restoration, and a slightly above average repaint with a nod to original GM traits and styling cues. That’s it.

I’m saving all my extreme OCD and over the top tendencies for my return to The Juggernaut. You think this one is particular? Just you wait my friend, you ain’t seen nothing yet!

Thank you!
I’m always happy to be a source of inspiration and motivation for guys like yourself. I’m no different, I draw upon others to motivate me just the same.

I can’t wait to see it start to come back together myself, things should start to happen fairly quickly around here now, so stay tuned!
