BUILD THREAD Project Olds Cool (Recognition!!)

Nice job on both projects, Donovan, they look great. Put me down for doubling up the sound deadener, the less road noise in the cabin the better. Imho

Nice that you got to take your dad out in the Olds and hang around with him a while. my folks are in their early 70’s as well and I need to knuckle down and start getting something going with my 80’. I bought it from my dad back in 1986(?) I think.

As far as the headliner...yours has reclining buckets, right? Recline them!! Not sure how flexible the ABS is, but the factory foam isn't THAT flexible when it's old, and I managed to get the headliner out and back in the 87 by taking out the passenger seat because it didn't have reclining seats and going out and in from the passenger side. It had way too many sagging bubbles in it and something needed to be done. Still a PITA because foam only flexes so far before it just breaks and folds.

Factory didn't have any issues since they went in through the windshield hole.

Thanks alot for the update Donovan. I got used to seeing you updates regularly, and I was starting to miss them, so this one was very welcome.
Put me down for doubling up the insulation as well. I was wondering-will glueing 2 pieces of that stuff together make it stiffer, once the glue has hardened? If so, that's the only drawback that I can see. I guess it depends on the type of adhesive that you use. Did you use a marker to trace out where the cuts had to go? Also, what did you use to do the cutting-scissors, or a knife, or both?
Awesome job on the headliner. I replaced the headliner in my Monte a few years ago. I got the ABS one from a local supplier here in Ontario, and they put the fabric on it for me as well. The ABS material is much more forgiving than the original one. You'll probably have to be more careful with yours, as it will be weaker, because of the opening for the Astroroof.
Good for you, getting your father out for a cruise night. Glad that he enjoyed it. I lost my father in a car accident when he was 70, and there have been plenty of times that I have wished that he had lived longer. We didn't always get along, but I miss him. Cherish the time you have with your father.
