Even though you didn't ask for it, this "old guy" took it as a challenge. Here's a bluetooth option for older radios. It goes in line with the antenna and FM transmits on a desired frequency.

Well, is the noise gone? On pins and needles ovah heah!

Well, I don’t know quite how to break it to you guys or why, but the original noise is gone. Good, but unfortunately it’s been replaced with a much worse sounding one from deeper within the engine. This one sounds much more serious, like a bottom end rod or bearing.

There’s something seriously wrong deep within the motor. Possibly oil pump? Who knows.

I’ve got one last thing I can try once I feel motivated to even look at it again, but it’s a long shot and not likely to bear any fruit. If it doesn’t pan out, then the engine will have to be pulled and torn down. Not exactly what I wanted a month before spring.

To say I feel defeated is an understatement. It may just sit in the corner for a month before I even feel like looking at it again. So pissed right now.
