D,
It's great to see you enjoying the fruits of your labor and hard work. Looks like a nice peaceful, scenic drive. Also, it doesn't look like many cars out there, which makes it more enjoyable.
You may consider a bug net for the front of the car. I used to use one back in the day. It's more to keep the excess pests out of your radiator and condenser.
Oh, and thanks for sharing the pics. 😉

Thanks Jack, it’s my pleasure to share the pics with everyone. The traffic was about as I had anticipated, a little heavier than usual due to being vacation season, but not terrible. I just got lucky in getting pictures with no one around at the time.

Decent suggestion on the bug screen, I should really consider whipping up something real quick to put inside the header panel in front of the radiator. No A/C in this one anymore, so no condenser to contend with. It’d be easy enough to do, thanks for the suggestion.

Curious Donovan, how is it doing for MPG? I personally could care less about a high revving V8 in an old car, effortless low end torque with acceptable horsepower.

To be honest Christian, I’ve never bothered to calculate it, mainly because it’s not what I built the car for, and also because this was the car’s first real torture test on the highway for extended periods of time. That being said, I feel it did pretty well with 3:73 gears and the tiny 14” wheels and tires. Cruised comfortably at 2250 rpm at 60 mph, and got 461 kms on 3/4’s of a tank before I decided to top it up.

I’m sure you could figure out roughly what that mileage equals, I’ve just never bothered before now.

Thank you! I’m happy with how it sits now too. 2” BellTech drop spindles in the front, and factory 41 year old F41 coil springs in the rear.
😅
If it works, it works!

Took my first step to making my Cutlass as good as Olds Cool- just got my mirror post camera mount! Pic #1 is D’s, Pic#2 is mine

Awesome! Looking forward to seeing some good footage posted up from you.

If you haven’t already installed it, just be aware that you might have to trim the threaded sections of the screws down a bit so they don’t hit the windshield. I had to on mine.

Cheap bug screen that works....

I installed a bug screen behind the grilles on the 85 about a month after I brought it home from the dealership. I went to Ace Hardware and bought a roll of black screen door replacement screen, the plastic stuff, not the metal stuff. I zip tied it as taut as I could make it behind the grilles, using bumper shocks for mounting points, and whatever other bracketry I could find with stamped factory holes in it. No point in laying it on right on top of the condenser as any bugs would mash the screen right into the condenser. Hardly noticeable unless you're looking for it. You'll still get a bug or two sucked up and stuck because of the area underneath with the mini-air dam under there behind the screen, but it's been a whole lot cleaner from bugs over the years.

Too many bugs on it? Simply replace the piece. Quick and easy.

That's how I've done it. Just a tip.

When I had to replace my original grill on my Monte I picked one up that had the screen bonded to the back of the replacement one & never thought that was there for a bug shield. Now I wonder in Donovan will get creative to make a slick version for Olds Cool.

It should be pretty easy to construct. The one that I bought years ago strapped across the front of the car using elastic bands and metal hooks at the end.
Really nothing to it. However, the one I have is bound around the edges where the elastic straps are attached..

Although, they are relatively cheap to pickup. Here's one example. https://www.autozone.com/front-end-...cts/bug-screen/p/victor-bug-screen/574244_0_0
