Rear Axle Identification

The olds and buick 71-72 8.5 with the bolt in axles takes the same gears as any other 8.5 rear.I know this because I just swapped out 2.73s for 3.42s in my wifes 72 cutlass,I got the 3.42s from a 90's ex cop car caprice in the boneyard..The carrier unit won't work because after 1989 they went to 30 spline axels in all 8.5 rears

that sucks my gp has GH2 2.29 gears. i raced 1 car so far and lost. it was to a 2002 grand prix. 442Jayp what motor and trans are you runnin. as for mine its a stock chevy 305 and im guessin a 200r trans

Does anybody have a spare posi that they don't want, I will buy from you. I have the 7.5 with 2.14 axle ratio.Im in desperate need of more power.

did the 83 Hurst Olds come with Posi Trac rearend ?

i think they could have come with the g80 option. The rear end i got i think was out of a 84 with an open carrier 3.73 8.5

Needing some info. I'm on my 4th rearend because its the weakest link and now its time to get serious but not broke. Besides another g-body because 8.5 g-bodys are difficult to find what other chevy 8.5 is close to a bolt in. I've heard that A body chevies are close but need tweaking for the upper control arms. I have a 9 inch from a versailles but finding a competent welder is scarce in my neck of the woods.
