it's a 10 hole cover and round so it's either an 8.2 or an 8.5 so you need to remove the cover and measure the crown..does it have bolt in axles?..if it does it's an old's rear end

Thanks! What should the crown measure at...and what is that confirming? What did an 8.2 come OUT of? I know either way, its stronger than the 7.5! I will go to my garage later and CHECK, to see if it is bolted on axles!! I know nothing about this. I just do the bodywork...and drive em! Lol Thanks again......

Ok...but what about what u were talking about in the previous message?

the diameter of the crown is what they go by when they talk about the size of the differential....the size of the bolts for the crown gear will also tell you the size of the diff, the 8.5 crown bolts have an 11/16 head and an 8.2 have 9/16...the olds rear ends didn't have c clips and used bolt in axles.

thought the olds 7.5 and 8.5 rears were c clips :?:

"The Olds A bodies went to the corporate 8.5 ten bolt in '71. These were bolt in axles from the factory"

the problem with the olds is there is hardly any gears out there for them...
