Got a new set of 6x9s. There wasn't enough room to mount them from underneath. And the factory hole size (in the metal) is to small for the speaker to sit on top. So I got some 1/2' mdf and had it cut so it was a bit bigger than the 6x9, and had a hole cut in the middle. Then I plan to paint the wood, and secure it to the rear dash, and the screw the speakers to that. That way I don't have to hack up the rear dash.

You may be able to install those 6x9s under 4x10 those factory holes.
If your new 6x9 magnets are not too huge, they would fit in the stock 4x10 speaker brackets, with a little bending. I've done it a few times and had 6x9s installed.
