Rear disc brake kits

Good morning.

I no longer have the stock emergency brake cable for my car. I plan to install one but have not at this time. Sorry I cannot be more helpful on this point.

As for the proportioning valve, yes you have to change it out to a disc/disc proportioning valve. I ordered my proportioning valve and brake lines from inline tube. My rear lines had to be modified as shown in the pics to accept the braided stainless line to the caliper.

As for the master cylinder, I'll snap a pic of the one I bought. I believe it's a master from an 81 caddy Eldorado that had disc/disc brakes... but dont hold me to that. I'll look that up and report back. Also if there is a better master for this kind of setup that other have used and like, I'm open to using that master over the one I have.

This upgrade made a HUGE difference for me. My old hardware was only 2 years old on the calipers, rotators, and pads. i am going to have my alignment looked at in a few weeks. But for now it is parked till it gets nicer out. I just wanted to post an easy to do, bolt-on upgrade for our g-bodies...

LS Rears, require you pull the axles and drill out the mounting flange to attach all the related hardware from the Camaro. You need to get a little creative to get the parking brake working but it's NBD

Rear brake options??

My 85 T-type has had the 8.5 rear removed and replaced with a Monty SS 7.5 rear but for some reason they kept all the rear brake hardware including backing plates and all. So I need a decently priced rear brake setup that is preferably a disc brake for a Gm 7.5 rear, just dont want to spend...

Both were done on my car in less than a day using a friends hoist using nothing but stock GM parts. I never have swapped the MC or proportioning valve nor see the need to do so. I did purchase 2 pre-flared lengths of brake tubing from the parts store to run new lines from the flex line on the rear axle to the calipers. Otherwise everything from the camaro \ blazer was bolted to the Monte with not much effort.

I checked out Inline tubes site and they actually have a couple of nice kits. They look like they come with just about everything you need. There is this one and for 25 bucks more there’s a cross drilled kit.

Inline tubes kit looks nice. That kit will require the axles to be removed where the speedway kit I did not have to remove the axles. If removing the axles is within your talents, the inline tube kit looks nice and I would love to see before and after pics of your install.

Ill be calling inline tube to order the emergency brake cable from that kit to use on my car.

Nice find! I dont believe that kit was available when I bought my kit many years ago or I just did not see it on the inline tube site.

My rear end is still out of my truck and I don’t think it would be to bad pulling the axles. Thing of it is the wheel cylinder hole in the backing plate is worn out so even if I chose to just replace them I would have to pull the axles.

That’s why I figured if I have to pull them I might as well do it right. Worst part is it’s digging into my engine budget but I think it’s right thing to do.

Well if you are worried about the wheel cylinder retaining clip dont be.

They have worked for 40 years

For less than 15 buxx shipped you can get some "extra" peace of mind by using the S10 retaining clip


Also any "KIT" Speedway sells I would avoid, their stuff is junk.

Are you keeping the same brake booster on your car? It's my plan to run my stock brake booster.

I have a new stock master cylinder for the car that has a 0.944 bore. Is that bore size large enough for a disc/disc setup?

Yeah I think the booster will be fine from what I’ve read.

Not sure about the bore size other than a larger bore should give a harder pedal. I’m still learning as I go but I did learn that there’s a residual pressure valve in drum type MC’s that stops the fluid from returning to the MC to help keep the shoes close to the drum ( bc the spring pressure). So that might cause the pads to drag a little on disc brakes if you use a drum MC. Also the Reservoirs are larger on disc type MC’s.
