Rear Drum Breaks ..... odd question

A nail in the brake fitting? Vice grips on the hose? Really?? Doesn't sound like great advice to me. Either fix it where it is or tow it. I really don't care if you drive your car into a ditch or tree and wreck it, but you'll probably end up hitting a preschool shuttle bus in the process. Just something to think about. Why were the brakes taken apart in "butt crack no where" by someone who can't figure out how to reassemble them?

my rear brakes went out once and had to drive home from work (wheel cylinder popped a few minutes after i left work) and then back to work the next day. i cant say it was fun but it wasnt a catastrophe either. the front brakes do most of the braking anyway but you will need more space between you and the vehicle on front of you. believe it or not the brakes are designed to work this way so you can drive it to the nearest shop. that valve in the middle of all those lines will close off the rear line and allow you to drive the car with front brakes only. this is to prevent a total brake failure and losing all braking ability.

i wouldnt go cruising around with the car like that but you can get it to a shop without needing a tow. unless you're one of those people who thinks it's really cool and awesome to tailgate people. then i suggest you just cut up your license and sell the car and do everyone else on the road a favor in the process.

With no rear brake hardware, there won't be emergency brakes either. Many many years ago, I was having a brake problem and decided to nurse it home. The whole way home they kept working, right up until I pulled into my driveway. That's when they went out completely and I ended up going over a hill, through the neighbor's fence, and into their backyard. It was during this off-road excursion that I promised myself to take brakes more seriously. FWIW.

well dang .... lol. I know someone that messed up there rear breaks and cant get them back together. Was trying to save a towing charge for them. Well glad I did not advise him to try it with out checking here first, had a feeling the poor cylinder would give. 8)
Id rent a tow dolly and pull it home for 35bucks.....lot cheaper than a law suit!

^^^Exactly. I own a tow dolly and it has paid for itself over and over. Probably more than I'll ever know.
