GU6 is a marketing RPO, used on many many GM products. All it tells you is axle ratio

If the rear in the Monte is the original, and it's a real SS, it should be a 7.625" ring gear, 3.42 ratio

My understanding is the 8.5" 2wd s10 rears are extremely uncommon. IMO, not worth all the fabrication for something that "almost" fits

If you can get an 8.5 from an S-10 for $150.00 you need to have a chat w/ 81CUTLASS to see if you want to pursue it and if he will help you out.

GU6 is 3.42 gears which is what the car came with but unless you have owned it since new who knows what is in there now or even if there enough oil in there.

The rear end is the original one that came with the car I have looked underneath the car and there's the 2 little fangs. I'm not going to mess with that s10 rear I'll just keep what's in now. My car has been sitting for a couple years I have the engine out saving up to get it rebuilt it's the original 305ho that came with.

If you are going to stick with the 305 engine I would keep the rear end you have but i would put
in fresh oil.

Your stock rear should be a 7.625" with 3.42 gears. Unless you are planning big power upgrades, your current rear is OK. But good used gears and posi equal the cost. Just convince 81 Cutlass to make you a plate for your SS.

Yes Sir. I will do gotta stick with the 305 for now cause I already bought majority of the stuff to rebuild it even tho I know most parts will fit on a 350sbc I have to get the 305 running first and then i can look around for something bigger and better than the 305. I would like to thank all that commented and I appreciate your all's help. Thank you.!!

With a plan like yours that gives you time to look for a good rear end. In a rush we often see what we want to see instead of what it is.....
