Replacement Condensor Arrived Am I Being Too Picky ?

I guess my question is why are you going back with a tube&fin condensor instead of a parallel flow? Staying with R12?

I have NEVER pulled a replacement radiator or condensor (OE included) out of the box and had no damaged fins, and I've installed hundreds. None that bad, though. Quick comb and good to go, usually

To be completely honest I didnt know there is anything else. Whats the difference ? This is the first time Ive taken a car apart that had AC.

It is generally accepted that the parallel flow condensor works better with R134a than the old tube and fin style.

In very general terms, the parallel type allows the refrigerant's heat to be dispersed equally across the entire condensor via the multiple small passages that run across the core, where the tube style is one long pipe that doesn't transfer the heat to the core as well since the tube is so long and winds back and forth.

There is a bunch of info on the net, but I didn't save any links

When I ordered a new Spectra condenser for my 86' Regal I didn't specify but it came as a parallel flow,
I kind of thought they all were now.

Some parts just don't do well by mail in the best of times when shipping companies aren't overextended. Now it's a crap shoot even for relatively durable heavy steel parts.

If you want to buy online pick somewhere that has local stores to get your discount and do an in store pickup. With the incentives the chains are offering they come out cheaper than rockauto plus shipping.

As for the condenser, id refuse it, give up, and not get a replacement again.

Funny, I originally got one of those at the local auto parts and it looked totally different than the original so I took it back and ordered the one from rockauto made by APDI. None of the local places sold that brand. The APDI seemed to fit in the rubber mounts a little better.
I contacted rockauto already and have a shipping label to send the thing back. Odd thing is thay only want one, not both. I might try to contact them on Monday and ask them for another label to ship them both back.

At this point since I test fit the first one Im not 100% sure if the Cutlass one is the right one to use. I read some guys use a condensor from a Camaro. Something abut the Camaro hose setup from the compressor lines up better. I think this one from the Cutlass may have needed a little trimming on the radiator support for the two lines. I didt want to bend them too much but they both hit the support. I was just at the junk yard yesterday and forgot to look at the Cutlass they have there to see if theres a difference between that and the one for the Malibu.

Did you pay for New? Or scratch and dent? They sent me a one piece intake gasket that was bent up on both ends. But as you said, the packaging was perfect. It went back as soon as I opened the box. Sometimes its simply not worth saving a buck.

In today's world we are all too quick to hit the buy button and sit back. We need to be a lot more demanding of on-line seller and hold them to the same standard as we would the local parts store. I know it's a hassle to go through the return procedure and the work involved but I have to think on-line sellers count on us not being diligent enough to follow through.
