Trying to replace valve cover gaskets. How do I remove these clamps and what are they called?

Also, taking tips on water pump install. See first post. Thanks

Man, pictures like that bring back bad memories. Those engines had enough hoses under the hood to stretch to the moon.

Keep in mind that since GM didn't use valve cover gaskets, the gaskets you normally find have 10 holes in them for bolts. The 307s have 5 hole covers. They'll still work, but just making you aware. The first time someone sees the difference, they think they got the wrong gaskets.
Yea I saw some threads on that. I’ll just use some sealant.

If you're using gasket maker sealer, the CSM recommends a 1/4" (6mm) bead of RTV sealer GE1673 or equivalent. Old GM p/n 1052915. Superseded number to 12378521. I concur with the Permatex Optimum recommendation (I prefer black). The black a bit flexible and is good to 500 degrees F and claims the best oil resistance. The gray is more rigid but stays til 700 degrees F. If your valve covers reach 500 degrees F, your car is likely on fire so it won't matter at that point.
I posted this in another thread back in August. Too lazy to research it again.

This is the process I’m doing for the valve cover, fuel pump and water pump. Is this fine?

1. Valve cover- just use rubber steel core gasket no rtv.

2. water pump- use permatex 2, put on water pump then on gasket that will stick to water pump. Nothing on block.

3. Fuel pump- Do I use same process as water pump or does there need to be permatex on block as well?

Sounds ok. You can always smear a film of non-hardening perm 2 on the block side of the gaskets, but that's a personal choice. What you want is compressability and ensure the gaskets are aligned and seated to seal properly. DON'T over torque the valve cover. It's got to be tight, but not so much as to dimple the bolt holes which could warp your sealing surface on the covers.

Thanks for the tips. Hope to have this wrapped up by next week. And yes there are a lot of hoses. Lol.

Took old fuel pump off. I believe only one washer was used. I don’t remember what bolt it goes on and my manual does not mention.

new pump didn’t come with washer. Help!
