G-BODY people are not the Barrett-Jackson krowd. On this site I have given people parts and people have given me parts and me nor them really cared about worth in those transactions we we're just happy to help each other out that's why I'm happy to be here and not at one of those other sites
That is my philosophy. Help your neighbor whenever possible. We all are involved in the same rotation. I like this site a lot.

Yeah. I have always offered to pay a fair price for parts on here. If someone procures a part for me, I rarely ask them what they paid for it, but just offer them what I feel is a fair price for it. If they tell me, "I paid more than that for it" then I'll ask them to counter. I guess my offers have been pretty generous so far, since nobody has told me to go pound sand for the prices I have offered.

I think what bothers me about the OP's post is the guy said he "had a restoration project" when clearly he was just a reseller. That rubs me the wrong way. But like UNGN said, if I sell somebody something at $500, and they go on to sell it for $1,000 or $2,000, whatever. Good on them. As long as they didn't lie to me about their story or background.

I can understand the ignorance of parts resale value before the internet. But now, with a few keystrokes, one can quickly determine parts asking and selling prices, world wide.

When you sell parts to a guy called "Ron's Classic Cutlass" you pretty much 100% know he in it for the money. 15,000 sqft warehouses are not cheap.

It's still jacked up that he put it under the guise of "needing it for a restoration". That leads a fellow Olds enthusiast to help another out, not line the pockets of a savvy business man. If he had pulled the Mike & Frank "bundle" trick- it would take some of the sting out.

Like Ed posted, it just takes a few clicks to see that Ron is just a reseller of parts and does not mention any other services. Trusting a stranger when it comes to money has never been a good idea. The other thing is the op doesn't mention what he paid for the parts

Devil's advocate: technically, it is for a restoration, just not his personal resto.

Still you should have known by his business name

Never let the buyer set the price if you're going to have remorse about their later actions

Did you sell the stuff to him???

If not, then there is no reason to feel cheated.

Take the time yourself to sell the parts for top dollar or sell them to someone else for less that is willing to take the time and do the leg work.

Why would you think a reseller is going to give you top dollar??????

Exactly. Mike and Frank don't.

They say up front they'll give 50% of retail and even then they know they are being filmed so they error on the generous side. Turn the cameras off and they'll give you a "fair" wholesale price which isn't a "market price", but probably more than you paid for it (or you wouldn't sell it).

The way I see it, it's like any other business.

Now personally, I'm going to make some assumptions here. It sounds (correct me if I'm wrong) that this was sort of an appraisal context.

1) Ron was out to appraise and say what the stuff is for market value.

2) Ron was out to make offers on the parts.

If the visit purpose was to appraise value, then purposely misleading and lowballing an item that was desired is a bit dirty and underhanded.

If the visit purpose was to check what the OP had and make offers on things of interest... then offering low is just part of business.

I/we don't know what led to the visit/offer, and it's entirely possible OP/Ron had different ideas of what the purpose was. It could even have been a mix of saying for some unwanted items "hey, I think this could bring this" and on others, "hey, I'd give *** for this"....

That said, when dealing with rare or unknown value items it's always best to get 2 3 or 4 valuations before accepting a price, whether it's car parts, antiques, or even selling a house.

If someone seems really eager to get an item for a price they're naming, wait and check with other sources before selling. Usually there's a reason for that eagerness.
