Update on the wiring, so me and a buddy of mine took the time to actually re-wire pretty much the entire front end of my car, we used high-heat resistant range wire and allot of soldering work, it turned out looking ALLOT cleaner and nicer than the old cluster-**** wiring harness. But the problem is still there, no ignition.
I've narrowed it down to one of the following, either the alternator has a short(which is unlikley), The ignition at the key is bad(Also very unlikley), Or my P.O.S starter finally kicked the bucket and shorted out (Most likley), We're going to rip my starter off today and try hooking it straight to the battery to see if it will spin, so either way today i'll at least know what i need.
As for the mechanical problem, I'm going to get the numbers off of my heads and find out what heads i have and then try and figure out what rocker arm/ studs i need to order.
Thanks again for all the help guys, i'll keep everyone posted.
Thanks for the input jesse, i have never swapped a cam before so i'm not sure what i shold buy, but im going with such a big cam because at the same time, i'll be rebuilding the majority of the top end, and the bottom end is all aftermarket already, Dart M series block and all the bottomend goodies.
Any advice on what i should get? Remember i'll be re-doing my ENTIRE valvetrain
I honestly don't know my comp ratio yet, but for now i'm going to be using my stock heads, BUT within 2-3 months after i've replaced everything on the valve train i'm going to be picking up a brand new pair of heads (bare obviously)
What are you running for gears? A cam like that will need good gears. And a big stall too. Not to mention you probably won't have a whole lot of vacuum for your brakes.
I'm no expert in what would be a perfect street set up. But I am kind of an expert at combos that don't work 😳 lol.
I've seen a lot of people running a performer RPM set up on the street will great results. But again, you will need decent gears and a stall.
It all comes down to this: what are your plans for the car (street car, race car, highway car, etc)? And what do you plan on running for gears and transmission?
And remember, bigger is not always better. I beat A LOT of people that claim to have 400+ HP under their hoods. And I'm still running my stock 30 year old 305/TH350 with a set of 3.73 gears. If the whole package (carb, intake, cam, heads, exhaust, gears) doesn't match up, it will most likely be a mean sounding slow car.
As for the high stall, i've got a standard stall TC, it's nothing special but it is brand new.
Transmission wise I'm more than fine, I've got a professionally rebuilt 700 R4 built up for racing, mass flow valve body...ext, the works.
Like i said I've never rebuilt the valve train on an engine to this detail before, so if you see that the setup im buying is either going to give me allot of problems or simply just not work the way i want it to then please tell me, and if you could help me pick out what parts would work best with my current setup.
And like i said, for a few months im going to be using my stock heads but i will be upgrading to the ones i posted.
As for the rear end gears, i've got the stock 3.43's, i'm going to mini-spool the rear end and pop a set of 3.73's in it.
But 3.42s probably won't be enough for the cam you want. And what size tire you planning on running? That makes a big difference too.
And I don't know about the spool. Is it gonna be a track only car? If so, then go for the spool. But if you're gonna be driving on the street I would say no. Running a spool on the street will probably break a lot of axles. Unless you pus skinny tires that don't bite. But then that would defeat the whole purpose lol. Not to mention the fact that high speed curves could send you into a tailspin.
There are a few options for differentials. But I'm not the person to give you advice on that.
I suggest you look for somebody who has a car similar to yours and performs like you want yours to. And ask them what they are running for their set up. Don't just buy cool parts and hope they will work. I did that once when I was younger. Took a mostly stock 305 and installed a big cam, intake, and a set of headers (nothing was matched together). The thing was lucky if it had half the power it had before. But it did sound cool lol.
The rear gears and mini spool isn't that high up on my priority's list right now, that addition won't be made for awhile.
As for the cam, i HAVE to replace mine, it's got worn down lobes =/. so instead of just dropping another stock cam, i want to put a nice decent cam in for a decent power upgrade, and at the same time replace all the old valve train because it's stock from 88, and needs to be replaced, to put it simply the top end of this engine has seen better days.
