I also had the same surgery in November and am starting to feel better. It almost killed me. I also have a 82 grand prix that I did a 4-speed conversion and Pontiac 400 motor swap. So we have a few things in common. Any way, eat lots of fiber and stay out of the hospital. Dave
Wow, small world!
Wish you guys both full recoveries and good health going forward.

A little progress to report. I've been working alot now that I'm feeling better. I worked right through last weekend and worked a half day today. Afterward, I went to the storage and cleaned the bottom of my hood. Best before picture I have......

After some Simple Green, a micro fiber cloth and some elbow grease......

A lot of overspray at the back from the paint job but.....

Not perfect, but good enough for this cruiser. I thought briefly about pulling the hood and shooting the bottom side black but I don't want to risk damage to the finished paint on the top, so I went this way. It's a big improvement the way I see it. The quality and fitment of the pad is outstanding. I bought it on Ebay. The name of the outfit was R.E.M.

I also finally got my crankcase breather mocked up. I've got a stock Monte 305 air breather that I've modded so I bought the stock Monte breather tube. It was too short. I guess the Performer Vortec intake is higher rise than the stock intake? My solution was to use a steel 3/4" heater hose splice as a nipple in the valve cover grommet and then make up the difference with hose. My O.C.D. wouldn't allow me to use heater hose so that is oil hose, supposedly for an oil return for a turbo. Not perfectly stock but has the 'stock' look I'm going for. I also have my starter mocked up and my little custom bracket for my plug wire loom that attaches to the the dipstick tube bracket is visible. Also, I have the stainless pump to carb fuel line installed. It's a reproduction of a stock Monte 305 line. Not sure if itvwill work with the Camaro serpentine accessory drive or not.

I've also been working on a throttle cable bracket. The 400 in my car had a stock looking throttle cable bracket that mounted to a couple of intake manifold bolts. It wasn't going to work with the Vortec intake. I reached out to a few friends on here that I knew were running a Vortec setup to see what they used. One was using an Olds 307 bracket and the other was using a modified aftermarket bracket. I'm going for a stockish look so I opted for the 307 bracket and bought one from a member on here. Got it cleaned up and painted and then went to install it, only to find that it interferes badly with my manifold vaccum fitting. Back to square one.....

Lookin good man. Any progress is good progress.

I sourced a bracket off of eBay for a square body Chevy truck (73-87) and it fits. It's a good solution. I don't have a pic of the bracket mocked up and I'm too lazy to go pull the engine out of the bag right now but here is a pic of the bracket......

I'll post up a pic of the bracket on the carb the next time I unwrap the engine.

Jared.
I really like the OEM look...it's clean and not overly done. I also like the underhood padding for a nice stock look.
Someone awhile back was making underhood pads using high density foam. I'm thinking of adding one to my cowl hood, just cutting around the air intake.

Man, had I known you needed an Olds throttle bracket, I have a spare I would have gladly given you. I used one on my engine, but had to cut and re-weld it to fit my Holley carb.

Keep up the good work, my friend. Everything looks great.

Thanks Jack. Yeah, I think the truck bracket is going to do the trick. If anyone needs a cleaned/painted 307 throttle cable bracket, I have one I can't use. I boxed it up and it's sitting on the shelf.
