You nailed it. I need to clean my act up around you guy's. There are many more people on here that I admire, but the way you guy's can work on something so simple and make it look so perfect .
Patience and time really. Not to hijack Jared's thread but I'm sure he will agree to the following. There have been many days I wanted to run the Cutlass off a cliff because the simple things weren't being so simple!!!!! However, it's nice being able to literally wipe down the engine bay with a damp microfiber and it be all shiney! I'm proud of how it looks so far, and Jared should be as well....his GP looks stellar and will be one heluva nice ride when done!

No hijack here Scott. We're all friends here and everyone is welcome to post.

All caught up. Great work! Now you'll have to make sure the engine looks as spectacular as the home you made for it 😀

Hutch

Haha! I forgot you posted pics of the engine already. Just a matter of dropping it in then. Can't wait for that.

Hutch

Thanks Hutch. I'm really looking forward to seeing the engine sitting in there as well.

I had a long good day on the GP today. I'm pretty enthused with the progress. I started with cleaning up the headlight harness and getting it back into place. I didn't do anything spectacular, cleaning wise. I just went over the original loom with a micro-fiber cloth and some Simple Green to clean it up a bit. Here you can see part of it clean and part of it like it was....

While I was at it, I added new convoluted tubing to the portions of the harness that didn't have any. I kind of look at it as something the General really should have done when the car was built....

Here's the passenger end of the harness where I've added the tubing to the low beam, high beam, corner light, and turn signal leads....

When I took the harness loose to paint the core support and fender inner panels, I tore up a few of the original clips. I was fortunate to find this assortment that worked pretty well.....

Also, I want to put a word in for this particular variety of electrical tape. Obviously I don't know how it is going to hold up but I'm pretty impressed with this stuff. Way better than the cheap stuff at the auto parts store...

Here's a look at the headlight harness going back into place....

Also note the new captured nuts from the metric hardware kit from Inline Tube. So far I'm really impressed with it. Next, I needed to button up the wires for managing the long gone diesel engine. When I bought the car, the diesel harness was still intact under the hood. When the car was converted to gas, the harness, including all the connectors were just taped into the harness. It was very bulky. I previously identified all of those un-needed wires and bobbed them short. I wanted to remove them from the bulkhead connector but with all of the diesel sound-deadening goo, forget it....

I decided to fold back each bobbed wire and then heat shrink it. Then I heat shrunk the wires into two separate bobbed bundles. These will hide under the wiper motor behind the inner fender. Not as clean as what I wanted to do but much nicer than taping in the connectors and all....

Here is an image of the heat shrink tubing I was using. This comes from Harbor Freight. Guys, this is good stuff. When you get it good and hot a glue/sealer comes out of it and seals it up. It's the best heat shrink tubing I've come across. I used a lot of this stuff on Sean's Camaro. I highly recommend it....

That's 10 pictures, but I've got more to say. I'm going to post this but there will be another post shortly. To be continued.....

Awesome stuff man.

I forgot to mention, I went back with new long life bulbs for the corner lights and turn signal lights. I also worked on a few small tasks. The rubber pad on the rear center hood bumper was not in great shape...

20171224_093235.jpg

I cleaned up the hardware, painted the nut and replaced the rubber with new bumpers that I sourced online...

I also replaced the decrepit driver's side windshield wiper stop with a replacement piece that 85ss/85gn fixed me up with. Thanks for the help Derrick....

Much better....

I got the wiper motor installed for good. I also installed convoluted tubing on the wiper wiring. Finally, I got the driver's inner fender back in place. It's a fun milestone...

It's really nice having the hardware kit. It saves a lot of effort on cleaning up and painting bolts. Here's a look from the wheel well....

It's come a long way...

That's another 10 pics. Almost done but to be continued....

I wanted to say it's come a long way from here...

Going back over the day's pics, it looks like I overlooked the image from below showing the front left lighting wiring with the new convoluted tubing...

Much better than bare wires, I think.

That's it for now guys. I'm off next week so I'm planning to push hard and see where it takes me. Today was a good day. Merry Christmas to you all. Until the next update....
