SPARK PLUGS - What brand and type?

I used to go with Delco but now they are made in china, I used to like Autolite but now they are made in china, I use NGK now, they are originally made in Japan and now the plugs are made in the US....Japan hates china so I don't think NGK plugs will ever be made in china but I'm sure there are some counterfeit NGK plugs on the market that were made in china.

Always used AC/Delco or NGK myself.

If you want the old school USA-made ACDelco plugs, just hang out on ebay. There's always someone selling a set of the 70s or 80s era plugs. And many times, much cheaper than the NGK or other brand plugs. Nothing wrong with them, but I have never been let down by OEM plugs. But not the new Chinesium Delco crap.

Get what was designed for your G-body if you're staying stock. ACDelco green stripes.

Well I hope the AC Delco green stripes I just bought solve my problem. I can't go over 45mph without bogging down and misfiring unless I flutter the gas pedal. When I flutter the gas pedal the carb seems to not hold back. But a steady increase in speed without fluttering the pedal will result in a hold back feel and eventually pops in the engine (sputtering). Engine is original 1984 3.8 L V6 231 but has a 1980 non computer carb. on it.

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me- open the throttle too quick and the carb can't deliver enough fuel. Or, a clogged fuel filter...

I tend to agree with fleming442 about it likely being a fuel/air mixture issue. Dirt in the carb, or a vacuum leak. It's free (except for time) to check over the vacuum lines to make sure they haven't fell off somewhere or lines cracked/crumbled. Not that new plugs wouldn't be welcomed, but I don't think that's the root of the issues you describe.

Also, make sure the vacuum/mechanical advance on the distributor is working. I'm pretty sure 84 Regals all had CCC. You can't mix/match CCC and non CCC (computer command control) things. So I'm assuming there's a vacuum advance on the distributor??

While I'm not sure the plug change will solve your issue, getting fresh plugs in will verify that you have the best spark possible. Flemming 442 has some great suggestions. Lots of spots for a vaccuum leak on the 3.8 engine. And fuel filters are cheap to throw in as well.

I'll let my mechanic know. He did the setup years ago and matched the non computer carb to my engine. It's been working fine for years except the choke pull off going bad a couple times.

*Grumbles* Im on my 4th one..... Cant seem to get one that lasts more than a month.

At least they're lifetime warranty... CPA141... I even have the goddamn part number memorized...
