I know this thread is a bit older. But I just picked up a iroc-z steering box and was wondering if you guys use the iroc or g-body power steering hoses?

Thanks in advance

Joe

I used the g body lines

Thanks. One more question. Did you also use the iroc p/s pump? is it compatible? I know about the valve mod to increase the pressure in the pump but it is probably easier to use the iroc pump or maybe the monte ss pump if compatible for the extra pressure.

Thanks again

Joe

I didn't use the iroc pump and only found out about the difference in the valves after. I have no problems with the set up though so I left it as it is...

If I pull the p.s. pump and steering gear off my '87 formula parts car, along with changing out the pitman arm from my regal, everything will work just like it is supposed too? Aside from maybe welding stops on the lower control arms for insurance. Am I reading that correctly?

Yes you read correctly. The formula box should have internal bump stops and everything should work fine.

Thanks! This is useful (even if it's 2 years old) 🙂

Update
I ended up using a Cherokee box and shafts
Not as quick as a SS box but real firm with the solid shafts
The biggest bonus in the the jeep box turns farther and with 205 tires I have no rub but it can pull a u-turn in the smallest of spaces.
The jeep box probably needs a little more pressure but the steering has a nice heavy feel to it now.
Love the change

Greetings Guys; I'm blow'in away by the knowledge and perseverance that so many of you have. I've been spoiled chassis wise having purchased a new 9C1 back in 79. So I may have owned & driven mine farther than most here but my knowledge of the steering box is, I've never had one apart! After reading this thread and looking at my build sheet I realize that I screwed up. I purchased a re-manufactured pump and gave them my 9C1 as a core, giving them my pressure valve. The 2nd to last (lower A arms) OE moving part on the car is the box # 78256692, has anyone seen this # before? Also I believe to be the date is # 138 (hard to read) and on the cover is # 9A172. This 34 year old box has givn'in it's life for my pleasure. And since I rarely replace with GM, because usually the after-market makes better stuff my attention was drawn to the AGR boxs. Has anyone here used this brand or any other brand? I have a good line to GM parts (rarely use them), so what is the collective opinion of the best NEW GM box available? As I'm not very interested in re-manufactured, even rebuilding my own 9C1 box doesn't enthuse me. And as I get more familiar with the site I see that some have replaced the rag joint with jeep stuff? Thanks for any help Bob Jr

If you're looking for a new box to replace the aging 800-series box, check out the new 670 series box from places like Lee, DSE, ATS, and others.
