But with both you have to notch the steering column foe the bolt
Hey I have an 87 monte carlo..... With the 3 items you listed on another post.... thats all I'd need to replace the steering shaft and the u joints? What length would I need for an 87 monte carlo? It eliminates the rag joint at the steering box and replaces it with a u-joint.
I actually went with a new cut to size Borgenson collapsible shaft and billet u-joints since on my Monte I needed maximum header clearance.
Yes, you need the collapsible steering shaft and u-joints for each end.Hey I have an 87 monte carlo..... With the 3 items you listed on another post.... thats all I'd need to replace the steering shaft and the u joints? What length would I need for an 87 monte carlo?
Ok cool just trying to get the right parts.... The part number that you put (Borgeson Universal Telescoping Steering Shafts 450024) says it has a collapsed length of 21 inches... Is there one that is 18.5"? Or what do you recommend? ThanksYes, you need the collapsible steering shaft and u-joints for each end.
I used the 18.5" Borgeson shaft and trimmed it to fit, the u-joints are 3/4-30 Spline X 3/4" DD for the lower and 1"DD X 1"DD for the upper.

Yes, the 450024 is what I used but Borgeson also has a collapsible shaft that is not telescoping at 18.5" which is what I was thinking of. part # 460018 but the telescoping is easier to install IMO.Ok cool just trying to get the right parts.... The telescoping one also collapses but you can push it in to get it on and then extend it to mount it, non telescoping is in a fixed position and only collapses under impact.Right on Geezer. I was looking for that information to convert my '87 El Camino. I'm curious, why you didn't go the collapsing shaft route? Isn't the collapsing feature a safety consideration?
