This is probably a long shot but do you know how many times your engine has been line honed? Everytime the main bores are honed the crank is moved upward. Obviously in pretty small increments but after awhile it could cause alignment issues. I have seen it when lining up a bellhousing on our dirt modified. Like I said its a longshot but its pretty odd that you have gone through 2 transmissions in such a short time without a high horsepower engine.

I have absolutely no idea lol. All I know is that it had an eagle crank, and eagle rods, and was clearanced for a 400 crank. It had the stock bore and 1.6 roller rockers

400 Chevys were externally balanced not internally. Aftermarket stroker cranks are sometimes made internally balanced though.

That what we were going to double check when we pull the motor out. It has run fine with no vibrations, just want to be sure everything is A-OK.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread BIG UPDATE 8/10/13

did you guys build the motor or buy it? If you bought it complete and never saw the internals, try looking at the damper to see if it a external balance damper.

Built not bought. Finished in July 2 years ago. It's hard to remember everything we did, I wish I had taken better/morepictures.

Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread BIG UPDATE 8/10/13

Started today fixing some curb Rash and surface rust on my wheels, and decided to see wha this would look like.
I like it, it's plasti dip so I will have to take it off and redo it when we put the new tires back on. Plasti dip is easy to spray so it's cool with me. Motor is gonna start getting pulled out tomorrow, maybe I will paint the engine bay as well, satin, flat, or gloss paint for the engine bay?

Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread, Fresh New Look

Also contemplating using a few coats of glossifier, which is like a clear coat for plasti dip to give it some gloss. What do you guys think?

Ive never seen plastidip or used it althought ive heared of several people on here using it. What is it?

It is a flexible rubber coating. Usually used on plier handles, but this is in a spray form. Cool thing about it is it always will peel off, but not unless you want it to. The more layers you spray the better!

Re: Budget Cutlass Build Thread, Fresh New Look

Motor and transmission is out. Making pretty decent progress. Here's what I've been up to.

Motor out

Painted valve covers to match my air cleaner design

Transmission case welded up

Front end stripped, ready for poly bushings, new sway bar end links, and ball joints

Nice pile of parts, more in the trunk of the car

Also painted my headers today

And made a blockoff plate for where the ECM harness used to come into the car. Still needs to be painted and sealed with silicone.

Bonus valvetrain pic 😀

I will keep you guys in the loop!
