hey, chrome won't get you home.

Well, in this case it will, just a little too fast

Lol this used to happen on my first GP, mild cammed 350 with a brand new Edelbrock 650 carb. Quite often, and it wasn't the cable getting stuck (nor the pedal on the floor mat). Never did figure it out, eventually, I just swapped the carb for a Holly 750 DP and it went away.

But man was it frustrating when, for just NO APPARENT REASON (I wasn't even mashing the throttle) the car just went NUTS into full throttle.

Once, in front of a lady with a baby buggy, crossing in front of me, while I waited in the gas station parking lot, just before the ramp going down to the road, for her to cross on the sidewalk, about 2 feet away from me, BAMMMM the car just jumped to full throttle. I mashed the brakes HARD while the car struggled to move, smokin' tires behind me, engine blaring, gripping the steering wheel for leverage, my foot pushing the brake hard for dear life... the lady AND people looking at me with a weird look thinking "WTF is that ******* doing?!?!?" :blam: man it was embarrassing. That was when I decided to change the carb. LOL. Oh and nobody got harmed.

I've had the experience of the accelerator getting stuck and know of a few others but it only stuck at the position the pedal was at. I don't know anything in the set up that could cause the carb to go to wot since even a carb without a return spring if left alone still has a spring in the accelerator pump...just saying

I know how it sounds, but I have absolutely no reason to fabricate such a thing. I can even remember my uncle (I used to live in the lower level and we shared the driveway, and sometimes, I'd park behind his car) he grabbed my keys and attempted to move my car so he could get his car out, to so he could drive to work, and it happenned to him (he told me the next morning). I still remember him telling me no matter what he did with the gas pedal, the engine was revving to sh*t until he turned the car off (so in this case, it sounds like the choke, right?). In the above incident, my foot was already on the brake pedal, when the car went bananas.

So, anyways, long story short, ever since then, I've seriously hated Edelbrock carburators. The very sight of them, reminds me of these past incidents and I abhor them.

Edit: I believed the problem to be a faulty electric choke, though it was never verified.

what trans were you running?
i can MAYBE see the throttle spring in a 200-4r having excess pressure and forcing it to WOT, but other than that...not a f^&cking clue (and the trans is a total WAG)
other than that on a carb....??????? huh? (on EFI-easy, but rare)

stock Rochester 4bbl quadrajet carburetor, no longer CCC, i guess its just electric now that there's no computer?

if it's still the original carb with all the hookups, just unhooked, that may be your problem..... go with a non-ccc carb and distributor.
