BUILD THREAD Sweet Johnny & Gina: A Love "Two Large" To Fail

Yep... Biggest killer is shipping. Just paid $26 to send Johnny a $22 part.
And I love you for it! We'll get squared away before too long because I absolutely hate owing people. I've repeatedly tried to make a baby just so I can give you my firstborn.

I'd be glad to have another especially if it's road ready, but I do have an 8.5 that needs put together. It's missing the gears, bearings, and a few small things but the stock guts are already rebuilt.

Excellent... you did buy that one you mentioned.

The housing is nice & clean but needs to be checked for straightness, the axles aren't twisted but need checked for cracks, and the "unit" looks good but I don't really know what I'm looking at. I'd like to blast and powder coat the housing at work before having it put together by someone who knows what they're doing. I'm thinking about going with Motive Gears since Richmonds whine on the street, and the cam would love it but I'm not sure I want to go with 3.42s just yet- maybe 3.08 or 3.23 since this is a daily driver that sees the freeway.

It's my understanding that these will hold 600hp in stock form as long as you don't shock them so I'll probably skip the axle upgrade unless I use a 30 spline Eaton posi unit from an '89 and up 8.5 or '99 up 8.62, which I hear ups the number to 800. Problem is that if I do that then I'll buy Moser axles and Ford "big ends" too, on top of C- clip eliminators and a girdle cover.

For the current 305 I would suggest 3.08s. I like 3.42, 3.55 and 3.73, but high highway use... 3.08, 3.23 is next. 3.42 to 3.73 is good around town. Will get into torque curve faster, actually help with economy because you are not lugging the engine. 3.08 gets you to 65 to 70 mph with TH350 and locking TQ your at about 2200 rpm, so not too bad for mileage economy at $4.00/gal like today.

Now when trump get re-elected and gas goes back down to 1.87, then 5.38s .... 4800 at 35 mph, who needs rings anyway, piston clearance and sealing is way over rated. Plus fogs out the mosquitoes..., helps the neighborhood...

I had a set of 3.08s with welded spiders but scrapped them years ago without ever running them in anything. It's probably a good thing because I would've just broken something. I think perhaps a new, non welded set is in order- ya know, for the fuel mileage. I'd love to floor the pedal with 5.38s just one time, I bet it's a blast!
