Tailgate Cables

Hi all,
Anybody know a source for new tailgate cables? starting to think about mine, 38 year old cables as i sit on my tailgate all the time at Cruise in's and whatnot.. and i aint getting any skinnier!!

You could also try doing a search for this GM part # 20012868. You never know what you'll find. Good luck!
gmpartsdirect shows them as discontinued and NLA.
Have your local GM dealer do a search on that part #. They could be sitting on a dealer's shelf collecting dust somewhere...definitely worth a shot.

I'm actually looking for the (swage eye) ends so I can shorten my cables.

Where in New York are you located?
Have them from a 86 El Camino, I believe they are the same..

Rock Auto does have them. They are reproductions by Goodmark. $44 a pair. I agree with Jack that a NOS set would be preffered.

I think the cables from Rockauto might be the only game in town as far as new ones are concerned. They seem to be discontinued wherever you look.

I don't think El Camino cables are the same size. They're also a different part # 20038629.

Im a GM dealer tech, Ill see if my parts dept can locate a OE pair, if not ill check out the ones from RockAuto

If you do not locate a GM set for the wagon the El Camino set I have are GM parts. Rock Auto lists the same part number for both applications.
$15.00 on the pair + shipping with the hardware & springs.

You can post the measurements of the El Camino cables, and I'll post the measurements of the wagon cables...fair enough? I guess that's one way we can resolve any discrepancies regarding lengths.

Great point! That is why you are one of the trusted "Go to Guy's" when it comes to advice on this site!

Measurements are : overall 13 11/16, center to center: about 12 11/16.
