Texas82GP's Roadmaster

Well, it's 25 years old and has over 100k on the clock so none of it is a big surprise. You'll probably be doing the pan gasket -- because we all know you won't be able to sleep knowing it's like that. 😏
Don't get me wrong. If it needs a pan gasket, I don't begrudge it. What I don't want to do is replace the pan gasket if it doesn't need it. If I could get it out quick like the Galaxy or my truck, I would have already done it.

You're right, I'm unwilling to live with it leaking. I'll keep my "watch the oil pan with a dry piece of toilet paper vigil" going this week and if it looks good this weekend, I'll go back together with it.

What did you think of how the transmission pan looked inside?

Am I just spoiled to working on my truck or are these LT1's a little hard to work on?

Oily starter and converter cover can also be valve cover or intake gasket .
Thanks for your reply. I had read that. The back of my intake was definitely leaking. I've already resealed it and replaced the valve cover gaskets so I have that covered.

Definitely harder to work on than an LS but at least you probably won't need to do anything to it for a good long while.

Transmission pan doesn't concern me much. Just looks like it was over due for some maintenance.
Thanks for your perspective. I value it.

They’re a little hard to work on.:banana::banana:
Man for such a big car there seem to be a lot of places under the hood where I can't get my hands! I swore off the knuckle buster FWD cars after working on my sisters 93 Lumina Z34 3.4 DOHC destroyed my spirit. This isn't that bad but reminds me of it.

Funny thing is, if you look at the engine bay it’s actually quite large. It’s like the engine was designed for a 30% smaller space. A corvette or something......

You got me there. It was packaged for the F and Y bodies. Still, they made some decisions on how they put it in the B-body that make it a little tougher than it needs to be. The accessory layout is strange and makes the passenger side of the engine tough to access. There's lots of room on the driver's side but they jammed all those brake lines in there. Ok, I'll quite whining about it. I just had it in my mind "It's a small block Chevy, it will be easy to work on." Not so much the case. It's a lot more like working on an F-Body of the time or even a front driver of the time.
Nice clean work Jared. At the rate you're going, I don't think that you'll have any concerns for awhile once you're finished.
Thanks Jeff. That's the idea. I want to take care of as much of it as I can while I'm in here so that it's done and if I want to jump in the car and drive to Florida, I have no pause in doing so. I also like to work on something and then be done, so I can work on something else.

Making progress. Last night I installed the throttle body. I had it on and off three or four times trimming the hose to the steam pipe and trimming the unobtanium hose for the evap to get everything fitting just right.....

We blew a transformer at work early this afternoon. I hung around for about an hour and then took off. I came home, changed clothes and headed for the storage. It was a good late afternoon/evening. I got the last plug wire installed and then got on assembling the front of the engine. The front is now done except for the heater and radiator hoses....

When I ordered the belt, I bought an AC Delco. Rockauto sent this....

I'm pretty happy about it. It's getting close to being back together. I'm hoping I can jump back on it tomorrow night. I think it will be running again this weekend.
