BUILD THREAD The Barn find rebuild

Pros to the CCC system is that it will adjust to keep the optimal 14.7 A/F ratio and timing which will help with reliable power and mileage.
Cons are its 30+ year old ECU and sensors without a lot of aftermarket support. The ECU also controls the lockup for the transmission.

CCC is pretty much Stand Alone and separate from the engine harness on the car.
If you want to remove it start at the PS kick panel and unhook the ecu. Then remove the grommet at the base of the firewall ( removing the PS inner fender will help greatly ). Pull it all thru the firewall and you will find that it can all be removed with most of the sensors. Take pictures, and remove the CCC thermostat with the sensors it hooks in to ( just about any SBC thrmostat housing will be fine to replace it ). Someone in the near future will pay a tidy sum for a COMPLETE harness and sensors to restore their all original car.

FWIW if you do plan to ditch the CCC buy yourself a wide band AF reader. It takes 99% of the guesswork out of setting up your carb.

My $0.02 just leave it in there as it's already paid for. Ditch the air pump. Cap off the manifold air tubes and air line to the cat. Drop in the new motor that you have and hook the rest of the 305 stuffs up ( exhaust and all ). Then once the car is rolling you / your daughter start driving the car and determine your priority list to work on what it needs. Headers = exhaust & crossmember = Money, more power will likely chew up the trans= money. No doubt after sitting this long you are looking at tires, brakes, fuel tank, likely fuel and brake lines just to start. Probably needs an interior gut to fix the racoon funk as well

Thanks, man. Always helpful advice.

I already see $ signs. Its tires, exhaust (was cut at the muffler), I have long tube headers (not sure they will work yet but free with motor), hoses/lines, brake rebuild, headliner, upholstery, etc. Plus all the hidden things. On a side note, interior isn't terrible, upholstery is cleaning up nicely but replacing for cigarette burns/smell. Racoon funk is long gone.

I have everything ready to pull but going to pressure wash all the blown oil and gunk off before I pull it. Just so its not dirtying everything up. Need to find two or three buddies with a few hours. I'm leaning toward the CCC because the more I read seems that's best for drivability but a pain to find stuff like you mentioned..

In terms of simplicity and driveability, really nothing beats just a standard HEI and a quadrajet. Setup right and working, it will run like it's fuel injected. Mine isn't quite 100% (I'd say 80ish), and it still starts with 1 pump (to set choke, or if haven't been ran for a few days) and a flick of the key. But qjets scare people, and can get really bad if in the wrong hands. Other option are aftermarket EFI setups like FiTech. 1000 for the all in one 600hp model, few hundred less for the all in one 400hp model. All the sensors and stuff ('cept for O2 bung in the exhaust) are part of the throttle body so it's really neat and self contained. Self learning as well. No choke to mess with, no fuel bowl or gas smell, no float to set, no idle mixture screws, nothing. As much as I like quadrajets, I'm leaning towards eventually getting a FiTech setup for my car.

Got the old motor pulled after the rain stopped. Cracked the transmission case overtightening the bolts. So going to upgrade I guess. Getting there. Slow progress .

I broke an ear off the Th350 that came with my first SBB. Ain't no thing. If you have the piece (if there is one), you could bolt the trans back on the motor and have it welded up. Kinda hard to weld aluminum, but you may have a shop or a dude in your area that knows how.

I have been looking into EFI swaps as well, and was looking into the FI Tech. I have come across some youtube reviews that didn't have the greatest things to say about FI Tech, mainly the "user interface". I will leave it to you to form your own opinion, but wanted to add my .02 cents.

I've been toying with the idea of a tpi from a 3rd gen F-BODY because the prices seem to have come way down I just don't know if I can handle wiring and installing it in a weekend
