That motor is toast. 8years of good service is a good life for a sbc that is raced.

Figured that since your an olds guy but I couldn't resist.
Autopsy complete - died instantly from crank failure. I'm really surprised how good the engine looked inside - all the bearings looked great, no wear on the pistons and the walls still had cross hatch. Not bad for an engine that ran on alcohol the last 5 years. I'm a Brad Penn user and attribute it to that. Pic's tell the story the crank was in 4 pieces and the cam in 3 pieces. Amazing how the SBC x rods bent like pretzels but didn't break. Oh ya that's a spare engine for my mustang.
I have never seen anyone remove a crank without first unbolting the center main cap.
........and winning shortly after that!
To many commitments or it would have been - it is in the car though.
Did the block break at the main bearing and that broke the crank or was the main bearing twisted out by the broken crank?
A real failure mechanics nerd would go over all the parts with a 10X loop and look for the crack origin.
