Painting some times really is a pain. Experienced or not stuff goes wrong. I prepped the hood cleaned it with a wax remover/mineral. And was ready for prime two sprits of the spray can and it completely stopped working, went to get another and same exact thing happened!!? Now I have to go back and exchange both cans. Oh the agony.🙄

Got cheap spray on pretty easily.
Here are the steps.
First a good two coats of self etching primer 1 can was enough
Second laid the gloss black down for a tack then I used the high heat flat to infuse the two paints. Did not let it entirely dry.
Third when the first layer is tacky I threw on a coat of gloss black alone. Then two more, two cans was enough.
After that I used a sanding block with a 1500 wet sand paper...no no.
The block some how picked up a tiny rock!!!! I had to sand that area down and repaint.
Learned my lesson and wet sanded with a 1500 by hand. Got all that orange peel right off. Then with a 2000 wet sanded by hand and got it looking beautiful. Used the wax remover again (very important) and then sprayed the last coat of gloss no orange peel and its looking smooth. Next will be another wet sand 2000 and then a clean polish will do this hood justice. Post the pics when done!

Well got the hood all nice and shiny! Gratified...yes. Was it easy...NO.
I did exactly how I said I would, a fresh coat then a last 2000 wet sand. Left the surface smooth to the touch. Applied rubbing compound to scratch out the scratches. Sounds crazy but that's how paint works. I could get the hood perfect but that would mean 3hrs of 2000 wet sanding and no life...and before that I need about 5 coats of black and thats wayyyy too much. Using the rubbing compound on the surface immediately changed from flat to gloss but removing the compound was the worst. Rub rub rub. Leaving a nice glossy finish but has an unfinished gloss if you know what I mean. A typical paint detailing would call for rubbing compound (if needed) polishing compound, then a wax. I'm going to go ahead and jump to the wax next. The rubbing compound I chose wasn't nearly has harsh and soft enough to skip a polish.
So up next a CARNAUBA wax.

Looking good. Can't wait to see it on the car.

Is that an after market steering wheel? I have been looking for one just like it, but all of them I have found said they wouldn't fit a gbody. Did you use a special adapter or did it come with the car? I know you are somewhat passed the interior stage, but I just found this thread. Inspired me to start a build thread that I have been putting off for about a decade. Thanks.

I think you see them listed that way sometimes only because the wheel doesn't have the same dish or offset as the original.

Thank you both for the info, that will likely be my next interior upgrade followed by some buckets once I get the funds.
