I wonder how many 1978 to 1988 hondas are still on the road....or any Asian import for that matter...

more than you think, i've owned one 87 accord hatch (pulled from JY sold with 200k on the ODO) and two 89 accord hatchbacks ( first one hydroplaned idk how at 10 mph and the other is my Daily driver). The one thing that would have killed those off is our friend rust and cash for clunkers. The old accords are the b*st*rd children, civics and the preludes got more stuff. I only got into a honda after the gas prices went up around 2003 and my cutty gets very thirsty, burned a hole through my wallet. I can't complain, my accord gets 360-380 miles a tank and I'm ok with the fact i can haul my olds engine in the hatch.

They say admitting to owning a import is like admitting to banging a fat chick, but whatever. I have a very built civic with way too much money invested, but I'm not like these little kids with the big bodykits, rims, wings, and a big can muffler, and think their car is fast. I'll give more respect to a guy with a fast, well built, Kia than to some cocky sh*t head with a fast, stock, factory car.

If the kid has a SI civic and actually knows how to drive it, he might have a chance. I've seen some crazy outcomes happen at the races (ex. A dodge caravan beating a porsche boxster).

BTW, I'm selling the civic to buy a g-body.

The ignorance runs deep in mullet land...

So very few of you have 15 second cars, much less the 13 to 14 seconds needed to beat the average "performance" sport compact. Please stop kidding yourselves and believing the hype in catalogs and magazines.

Then why waste your time hanging out with mullet heads and old slow cars? Sell off your old slow crap and buy a modern car that is faster and better for less money than trying to improve your 30 year old GM POS.

Just because you think most of us ignorant G body owners you look down at so much have 15 second or slower cars is just your assumption and not fact, heck even a 305 can do 13s easy, lots of 3rd gen F body guys can do it. Snobbery and elitism runs deep in GN land.

Truth of the matter is your car is as fast as how much money you are willing to dump into it which includes just the buying price of the car itself and whatever upgrades you buy for it. Besides racing should only be done at the track and never on the street. Only morons street race.

I'm totally with you on this. And not just in this case either.

Absolutely correct in every particular.

careful!!!!!!!!!! my 71 chevelle was beat by a stock Honda civic.my chevelle was a 454 .60 over 411 gears and 550 hp @ 550 ft lbs tq
hate to say it but that's why I don't line up with anyone now.
I too am a rice burner hater but they are quick
No offense man but thats pathetic. I know the newer Civics are pretty damn fast for what they are but if a stock Honda beats your 550 horse big block I gotta imagine theres something wrong in your combo or his really isnt stock.

Set up was ok..had a 750 holly and after that embarrassment switched to a 850 .made a great difference in the long run. I ran low 12s at first after that mid 11s I think I was starving for fuel at the end

I would never drive a import.I don't like them but I don't begrudge anyone that dose.Differnt strokes for different folks

ROFL I was just thinking the same thing .....

I love my gbody and I have deep respect for the imports. I want a Corolla SR5 to play with some day. Stock for stock back in the 80's my friends SR5 would stomp all over my V8 Cutlass ( with an "upgraded" 350 from a 70's truck ) in every aspect other than a rolling start and get 3x the mileage. Its still around and my cutlass is long since rusted out.

I remember the j* imprts rusting out badly back in the 80s and early 90s. My Dad bought a 84 Toyota pickup new and I can't remember it without huge rustholes all over it. Back then it was common to see flesh rust stains on the dealership lots under brand new j* imports. Even today, I have seen pictures of 2000s j* pickups snaping in half on shop lifts from hidden frame rust, I think it was a Titan.

Looking at stock SR5 specs, they had 87 HP and 85 lb·ft of torque, with a curb weight of 2,035–2,400 lb. So it wins mainly by having less weight even through a stock Cutlass has 93 more HP, a better power to weight ratio.. I doubt a 70's 350 would be much better since 70s motors have low CR. It's why 80s 305s and 307s made the same or more power than 70s 350s in stock form.

Saving weight and mass is a pretty overlooked area in G bodies, however most modern cars, even modern small cars are overweight. These days cars are built extra heavy, there is a reason the econo boxes from 20 years ago have better mileage than current hybrids. Between crash protection to all the fancy features they offer adds a lot of weight.

Thanks RustyRodger.

:wtf: Slamming Turbo Buick owners? That's uncalled for. And I happen to enjoy my 20+ second (0-60 mph) Gutlass Supreme.

So when is all this talking and speculating going to stop and these 2 cars in question going to race? No excuses. Just get er done.
