PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE stay away from an LT1 god what a usless motor or atleast in my opinion. Whats good about it? its just a regular 350 that has aluminum heads and has reverse cooling to allow for more compression... hell if you tune it right there is no need for reverse cooling. It also has the Opti-gay ingnition the oil pan is differnt. Everything just is stupid about this motor. If your going to spend as much money as you will on a lt1 go LS and DONT LOOK BACK. LS is where its at. But since thats just as bad with mods(as in motor mounts computer wiring etc), just get a 350 bore .30 over make provisions for the stroker crank get a great set of heads and make a whole lot more power for less than it would cost to do a lt swap that would just have less power anyways.

while i don't have a problem with the LT, except for the optispark, i fully agree it's not the way to go. the LS series engines are lightyears beyond a gen1 or LT system. the wiring/ecu really is not that hard if you buy a good, programmable setup. and if you mate the LS to a 4l60e (or rather a properly built one--stockers aren't very good) or better trans, the tuning possibilities are endless. like being able to have a fuel efficient tune for regular driving with nice comfortable shifts, then flipping a switch and having max power and drag level shifts. or do a multi-position switch for more options.
and the bottom end of the LS will not need upgrades for a LONG time, GM overbuilt the sh*t out of them. and the heads may be the best stock/factory ones ever produced by anyone. hell, ford guys are adapting them to their engines!

Hawksthirdgenparts.com I can get an Lt1 with everything!!!! for 1500 with less then 100k miles or an LS1 with a 4L60E or T56 for 4500 with everything!!!! I know an LS swap is upwards around 6 or 7k complete. I like the idea of a 350 bored and stroked i cant lie... I wont have to deal with computers or any of that stuff. Im just throwin around a few options. How do you guys feel about 454BigBlock??? I think I can get the same out of a mild built 350 or 383 385 388 with less weight

big blocks are gay just saying. Old technology when speaking of todays advancement in head and cam technology.. you dont need that many cubes for the power you can make with them. UNLESS you want to make like 650hp + and go all out racing. You can find a lq4/or lq9 which is an iron ls2 with aluminum heads. Try and find this with a 4l80e. Thats if you wanna go ls. If you want 400 450hp. Get a 383 with decent heads or get some brodix ik200s and a xe274 cam with about 10:1 compression on a 355 and make stupid power too. Big blocks are expensive too which to stupid for the same money you can do a mild bad *ss ls swap.

and big blocks are HEAVY. your handling will suck. unless of course you get the ZL-1 all aluminum 427 big block :)
a stock 5.7L LS with a minor cam and reprogramming will produce 400hp. and they can go waaaay over 650hp!

driven them, i understand the nose being all over the place and the nose on the ground in a stop because of all the extra weight. and yes the front end was built for the weight. but it's hard to build for inertia. BB's are great for going in a straight line. and compensating for your little dick (just kidding! had to throw it in there :) )

own one? I would never do such thing. Unless its pontiac of course which technically isn't a big block but is. I have had experiance enough with my grandpas 547hp dynoed 468 bbc in his caprice and the 455 in his trans am. I've always loved the big inch ponchos but still... nothing will ever change my opinion on big blocks. Ever since my first ride in an ls'd ws6 trans am that was BUILT I will never go back. Plus there is no need to get a big block now what a small block can do.
