Yes on the gasket and the thinnest of thin coats of rtv.

we never used a gasket, black silicone and copper washers and we never had one leak. An old friend who use to work as Ford said he never used a gasket

I got my center section installed by myself today. With the housing already in. Thank God for a collection of bungee cords . I used 2 to strap on the jack while I moved, positioned, and raised it. My axles finally showed up just as I was bolting the chunk in. Now I have an unfamiliar puzzle to figure out since I’ve never done this before and there’s no directions. There are the 3 pieces that fit on the axles ( in pic ) that i don’t know how or when they go on. I can figure out the seal and bearing, but what about the smaller ring?

Of all the videos I’ve watched, I haven’t seen what I need. I’m thinking after I put the seal in the housing, put my Camaro backing plate loosely on the axle, then the bearing, followed by the smaller ring up against the bearing. Right or wrong?
