To be blunt about it, ya gotta get more up to speed with the tech! I can absolutely vouch for mail tunes as motorheadmike tuned my Cutlass LS swap from 600+ miles away!
Yes I bought HP Tuners, but that was so I can learn myself and also check CEL's on other cars!
I gave Mike all of my parameters for building the tune which happen to be similar to his badazz wagon, and he damn near hit the nail on the head 1st shot out! My AFR's stay steady between .98-1.03 (that's 14.7 for ye peasants). Other than a couple odd things from a fresh engine swap, he was spot on! I was just out ripping around in the car earlier and it's impressive the power curve the car has, and cruise drive ability with a healthy cam (.613/.590 lift) and a 3400ish rpm lockup converter and 3:73's.
So what I'm pulling out of this is that the ls fanboys are basically the jarjar binks crowd?.?.
Makes sense, and, appears about right. I'd prefer Luke "sbc" Skywalker, Han "poncho" Solo, Chewy "Olds", and Leah "Buick" Organa. All going up against Darth "Ford" Vader and Emperor "Shelby" Palpatine. Even Lando "Hemi" Calrissian makes his appearance.
But JarJar "LS" Binks? Meh, not for me.
motorheadmike , Injectedcutty , and I can attest to LS power. Low end torque is great. Drivability is great. Not that you can't have that in an older engine, no matter the make, but often times you don't. Most don't know how to properly tune an engine to get the most out of it. Timing and carb. BUT..... The same goes for a fuel injected setup too. I'll be the first to admit I still have A LOT to learn about tuning my setup. I know there is still more there. Fuel injection is more forgiving, and can hide some of your mistakes or mis steps though. That's all. When you step back and look at the big picture, it comes down to cubic inches, bore, and stroke. Bigger stroke more torque, then utilizing what you have with tuning. That's it.
This ^^^^^ is when you realize you're not in the 'kid crowd' any longer. Welcome to geezer group Mike, you'll fit right in I'm sure.In the Army we run on the 3Bs for talking to senior officers too: Be Brief. Be Good. Be Gone.
The literal one thing any BOP engine has going for it over the LS/LT/Coyote/Gen III HEMI: Nostalgia.
I talked briefly to an elderly disabled chap at the cruise night last night (he was driving an 80s Parisienne) and he started rambling on about the 267 in it. And the Mercury 250-something in his highschool car. And that 40s Cadillac over yonder and how they were the hot ticket back in the day to go fast. I nodded and smiled politely for as long as Tatiana would let me.
But, in the back of my head all I kept thinking was: Am I going to sound like this in 20-25 years prattling on to some Cyber Punk kid about my 717hp Hellcat with a manual transmission and turbo/supercharged/nitrous LSes with him/her/them/insert weird *ss pronoun here trying not to roll their eyes next to their flux capacitor powered hover car that goes 0-60 in half a second?
Probably.
Nostalgia is king.
Nope, gonna have to stick with jar jar binks. He came around in the very late 1990s.... and ls motors came around the, you guessed it, very late 1990s. Not someone you first heard of just a couple years ago. (Although if you're trying to say the ls is girly?)They are more like the Rose Tico fans.
Ah.....so the fact the memes exist prove your point? I could go out and find a "show me where the ls swap hurt you" meme......but again.....I care so little about yours or anyone else's engine preference that I'm not going to waste my time. Its so common that there are even memes about it.
The engines have torque management to save the transmissions. That’s why they’re gutless.Below 4000 rpm. I towed my old 16 foot Vanguard with my Inlaws 04 Avalanche 5.3/4L60E/3.73 I believe. My 94 did better in the low rpms, towing the same boat. I sorry that these trucks don't perform below 4000 rpm. Above 4000 rpm is different story. I don't know why GM tuned them like this.
