You need the correct geometry for the TV cable at your carb. Get the correct bracket so as to not destroy the transmission. As mentioned by others, the TV adjustment has NOTHING to do with shift points. Even though moving it around can change the feel of shifts, it needs to be set correctly inorder to develop the proper amount of line pressure for throttle position. In a nutshell, it applies more hydraulic pressure to the clutches and TC to keep the clutches from slipping based on engine load caused by throttle position.

The issue you are describing is a problem with the governor. You have either a stock governor from a grocery getter transmission or a spring has fallen out of yours. The fix is one of the easiest repairs on a 200 or 700 series trans that is done inside the pan. Each governor is 'tuned' by the factory for the application for WOT shifts, and many aftermarket suppliers will build (tune) a governor depending on your needs.

At WOT is there slack in the TV cable at the carb linkage? The movement to WOT should have 'bottomed out' the cable - no slack.
You could move the adjustment further from the carb one or two notches to give the cable 'extra pull distance' to test.
By “bottom out and slack” you mean there should be no more cable that could be pull toward the carb at wot? Because I already have the tv slide fully retracted away from carb. Maybe my throttle cable bracket is th wrong piece

Thanks. It might be time to visit a qualified trans shop.

This what I have. I’m not sure why the previous owner offset the throttle cable. But my tv is set very similar to your pic. I also now have it piano string tight and at wot and it is shifting around 4800-5000 rpm. When in OD.

You can find this at Summit, Jegs or direct from Holley. Also,it is not very difficult to change the governor. If you can change the transmission filter, then you can change the governor. There is one gasket that might be needed if the old one tears or sticks to the valve body. It's extremely simple.

Here are a couple of places to buy a governor. Also, you can tune your own if you do a little searching on the web. Calling Bowtie OD's and Chris at CK performance you'll find good advice and all the parts you need. Talk to them, they want to help. We are running a CK 200 that we bought and then bought upgraded parts from Chris to handle darn near 1000HP. But Bowtie OD's, Art Carr, etc are great sources as well. If you've never talked to a transmission guy, then hold on as these guys will talk about things that you've never heard before.

You have the option of hunting for '85 Monte SS, 442's and GN's to steal the parts from, but good luck finding one. If you happen to find one you might as well grab the entire trans for the core parts. They have upgraded servo's, valve bodies, pumps, clutches, stators, etc.Around here, they are like chicken lips.

BTW, where are you located?
