Trunk Carpet

Unlike the interior carpet, the trunk one isn't molded to the floor - when removed it's perfectly flat. There also isn't anything special about it. Earlier years were black with about felt like backing. Once you got to say, 84-85 they started being foam backed - said foam degrading worse than the junk behind the headliner and really making about royal mess when removing.

I suppose one of us could dig up some nice used (I'd have got you one but I just packed much if my parts back into storage with the move) or if needed, maybe about template? It's pretty straight forward if you wanted to cut one to fit though, doubt you'd need one.

You could, if wanted, buy a roll of the generic flat carpet like auto parts stores sell and simply cut to fit.

I had the same idea in the back of my mind if I don't find something ....🙂

My Malibu is flat without the tire well but my Cutlass is molded.

Both have the original trunk carpets.

Are you sure that's original? I've never seen a cutlass carpet like that from gm, and I've been through a couple hundred cars (admittedly only probably 4 or 5 dozen cutlasses)

What did they do for the drainage hole in the bottom? Is it cut out for it or does it just cover it over?

Not sure if you are looking for a factory kit carpet but I have the 9 piece trunk kit from GBP and it looks pretty nice. It took a little figuring out to install it, and the fit isn't 100% perfect, but it still looks pretty good and I'm happy with it. This one isn't mine, but it's the same kit. I got mine in claret to match the interior.

Looks good are these pieces sturdy? Is the carpeting glued onto particle board or something?

I really like the way it looks. They are glued on to a backer board of some kind. They aren't really sturdy, but they wouldn't be hard to stiffen up by gluing a furring strip or even a piece of aluminum angle or thin bar stock to the back. Im probably going to do something like that to try and stiffen the boards in my trunk up a little.
