Upholstery finished now doors don't shut right

I had the seats and door panels done in my Malibu 3 years ago. I bought new seat foam and supplied all the cloth to do the job. They basically did the two Monte buckets, the rear seat to match, and all four panels stitched to resemble a Monte SS interior. Couldnt buy repop seat covers because of the odd color. I paid the shop $4K for just that and I brought them the front seats stripped to the metal tubs. No headliner, no carpet.
Im thinking the the guy in your shop had no idea how the door panels fit. As far as the hidden clips, the upper panel where it wraps around might be too thick for the hidden ones. I'd be pissed. How did you find this shop ?

Have you gone back to the shop (with a witness) and asked that he corrects the issues? I wouldn't go there all pissed. Much of that can be fixed.
I'm sure it took him way longer than expected and wanted to move on. Not right, but probablly what happened. .

Also, new weather stripping may be part of the issue with the doors..

Man, I am in the wrong business.

since you planning on taking the company to court do a check to see if the company is owned by a corporation or an individual. You need to sue the correct party so you can enforce a judgment. Also you need to bring your car to another upholstery shop so they can give you a written appraisal of the work that was done and what it is going to cost to do it properly.

Man $4k? If I paid $4k or anything remotely close and got that words couldn't describe how I'd feel. That's amateur work no offense. Im not a pro when it comes to interiors by any means but I have made plenty sets of door panels without door issues. I agree with what 565 said. Those big *ss round push in clips look like the issue. Im really curious as to why he used them instead of the factory fasteners.

Im really sorry to hear about it man. That sucks. That chunk of change for that horrible of work just........sucks....

Really sorry to read this and see a fellow member going through a bad deal like this. Situations like this really suck out the fun. Hang in there. Try to stay rational (I'm not sure I could), make good decisions and salvage the situation. I agree you paid way too much for what you got. Is it just the paint that's cracking in the jamb?

In the area that i live in I have three choices and two of them are not an option. when I have it redone I will take it three hours away to Albuquerque NM and have it done right.

The crack in the jam is the metal cracking from the amount of pressure being put on the strikers. both sides are doing it and are getting worse each time I shut the door. This was supposed to be a great experience, finally completing a car but no luck.

I think I would quit shutting the doors until you get this resolved. Some will say not to touch it until you get a resolution but that could take a long time. If it were mine I would pull those door panels and Mig weld those cracks up and then move forward with refinishing the jambs and figuring out what to do on the door panels. If you don't weld you can find a good sheet metal welder to repair that for you. This really sucks man. I'm sorry for you. It can be fixed though. I would not force those doors shut again.

I have quit shutting the doors.. I meet with my lawyer tomorrow to discuss the details. Waited two months for the car to be done, now I have to wait longer before I can fix anything. Pretty bad deal, but on another note my wifes' monte carlo seems to be coming along nicely.
